Does anyone else find this amusing. I found this on another board.
I was in Gypsy and played Rose when I was 13 and that was in 8th grade...We really didn't cut much actually the only thing they had to cut was Rose's Turn
I really rather shoot myself than see a middle school production of Gypsy with a 13 year old Rose.
Am I the only finding this amusing?

They cut 'Rose's Turn'?!?!?!?!? That's one of the most important scenes in the show!
I am scared sh*tless now.

Gypsy without 'Rose's Turn' just doesn't exist.
It's the whole point of the show.
That's the stupidest thing I've heard in a LONG time.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

Posted: 7/24/05 at 11:19pmYou know what makes me laugh? A 13 year old isn't even able to be a mother. lol. You know a 13 year old having daugthers who go from child to teen - just isn't possible.

Any 13 year old playing a mother would be HILARIOUS to watch...or, you know, painful.
I can't believe they cut Rose's Turn. I mean, that IS the show!

That reminds me of the film "Camp" (was that the title?). The most hilarious aspect of that was when the young camper were in costume and performing the theatre songs.
I could not stop laughing. The DREAMGIRLS sequence was do damn funny. With those wigs, and those little campers. I had tears in my eyes.
This really happens. Ouch!!!
How can any adult in their right mind allow children to perform these roles?

I know a high school 2 hours away did this show a few years back. They were allowed to keep "Gimmick", but they had to change the strippers to chorus girls in tasteful gowns. Welcome to the Bible Belt...
But no "Rose's Turn"? Hang me. Now.

Not to scare people, but when I was in 8th grade. A girl in 6th grade got pregnant.

LMAO DIVA!
Heres her full post
was in Gypsy and played Rose when I was 13 and that was in 8th grade...We really didn't cut much actually the only thing they had to cut was Rose's Turn (DAMN THEM) because they didn't have the karaoke at the time (this was before bernadet peters played it and theres all the karaoke and stuff out..im 17 now so it was 4 years ago but hey i did get to do that song for thespian districts last year so i got to perform it! YAY *happy dance*) Anyway I was the youngest in the entire cast except for the little kids in the opening scene & baby june/louise and i believe the oldest in the cast was 16 or 17 so that was the range. The whole strippers thing we had the most ELABORITE costumes I swear they looked just like professional ones it was SO great. The girl who played electra wore those skin colored leotards with her flashing lights costume so it didnt show as much skin but either way that was the most bared costume and it was kinda like a bikini. and i agree with everyone above who commented stripping was alot different then, then it is now it's basically like girls acting sexy. And teenagers do that anyway...so no its not at all rounchy BUT you need SO MUCH TALENT to do that show and that would be the only bad thing of doing it with high schoolers.
Why would they make the youngest cast member MOMMA ROSE? Why would they do Gypsy as a CHILDREN'S SHOW.

"A 13-year-old isn't old enough to be a mother..."
What's the difference between that and every other adult role that teenagers play in middle school-high school productions every day? I understand Rose being unusual, but kids who are ideally too young to be parents play adult/parental roles onstage all the time.

I have major issues with children playing roles in adult shows that were intended to be played by ADULTS. I can see some kids playing roles of an adult in some shows. But kids playing roles in Cabaret, Chicago, Gypsy( the adult leads) etc. PISSES ME OFF.

"Why would they make the youngest cast member MOMMA ROSE?"
Maybe she's the only one who could sing the role?
(I'm kidding)
