What are some LP's that haven't yet made it onto disc? My number one is Promises, Promises. While I have it, it'd be nice to have a reissue (maybe to go with the revival?) What else hasn't yet made its way to CD?
(No, brian, this is not a chance to bitch about **** that wasn't recorded).

I kinda wish that the Donna McKechnie Can-Can and the Andy Capp musical would surface.
Oh, and real releases of the OLC of Company and Cabaret.

"The Consul" OBCR is long overdue for a proper remastered CD edition. VAI has issued the soundtrack of the TV version, so there is some Patricia Neway on CD, but it would be really nice to have the original with Marie Powers as Mother.
I second "Donnybrook!" Also "A Time for Singing," "Inner City," "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope," and would also really appreciate some sort of release of the OBC of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" I have an mp3 rip a friend made for me, and will continue appreciating that for the time being. But it is essential listening for any fan of the play/Albee.
I would love to see the OLCs of "Carnival," "The Most Happy Fella," and "Camelot" make their way to disc one of these days. I imagine as the copyrights expire they will all make their way onto Sepia.
We've been very fortunate with Kritzerland to get "Illya, Darling," "Anya," "Show Girl," "House of Flowers," and "Cry for Us All." I always look forward to seeing what Bruce Kimmel will surprise us with next.

"I kinda wish that the Donna McKechnie Can-Can..."
I saw that on tour but I wasn't aware an LP had ever been released.
"...and the Andy Capp musical would surface."
I thought the score for Andy Capp was boring: I can only remember one song.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 1:29pmHasn't the "London" Company had a few "real releases"--at least two? I have the West End Sony one that was easy to find here in Canada when I first got Sondheim obsessed in jr high--so the early 90s. The famous sound issues drive me crazy but it's nice to have.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 1:32pmYes, it has. I thought the London Cabaret did too. It's listed on amazon.co.uk (though out of print). Also, I show the McKechnie Can-Can had a CD release.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 1:55pm^ They did, but not widely, and in the early 90s. I've never seen any of them pop up on eBay.

Sony West End released both OLCs of Cabaret and Company on CD. Others I have from that long out of print catalogue: Sweet Charity w. Juliet Prowse, Passion Flower Hotel, Bar Mitzvah Boy, Anne of Green Gables, and No No Nanette (1973 London revival).

The Sony West End series were distributed in the U.K. and in Canada but not in the USA, although Footlight and other specialty dealers brought them in as imports.
Here's the Complete list:
SMK 53494: CABARET
SMK 53495: ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
SMK 53496: COMPANY
SMK 53498: BAR MITZVAH BOY
SMK 53499: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (issued in USA on Columbia and later Sony gave a beautiful remastered edition)
*SMK 53497: was supposed to be the 1963 OLC of ON THE TOWN starring a young Elliot Gould. The CD was pressed and packaged and a few copies sent to reviewers when someone pointed out that the wrong master was used and the CD contained the 1960 studio cast with Walker, Comden and Green. The disc was hastily recalled and was supposed to be eventually reissued with the correct program, but it never was.
SMK 66171: THE BEGGAR'S OPERA
SMK 66172: SWEET CHARITY
SMK 66173: NO NO NANETTE
SMK 66174: CHARLIE GIRL
SMK 66175: PASSION FLOWER HOTEL
SMK 66176: SALAD DAYS
The second batch are particularly scarce as Sony seems to have deleted them within a year of the release. Only the OLC of CABARET turns up with any regularity.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I was going to start a thread wherein I mention that I started a thread at Decca Broadway's site regarding reissuing Donnybrook! on cd. But, this discussion has been brought up before in this thread and others.
Perhaps those of us who are Donnybrook! fans would like to make our way there and make our (keening) voices heard? I would like this cd in my lifetime, preferably, and Decca has had such success with cast recordings lately they should make an effort.
What else do they have to reissue?

Inner City, Time For Singing, and Doonesbury fer sher. I would love to have Women of the Year reissued as I sold it years ago when I was out of work.
Go to the link below to voice your position on a Donnybrook! cd reissue! Unlike those other musicals mentioned (cept the opera Regina) I love every moment of Donnybrook!

I forgot to mention RIVERWIND and BALLAD FOR BRIMSHIRE are available through Bruce Yeko but not through his Footlight.com or OriginalCast.com sites. He lists them on eBay under the seller name Irmgard2u. Below is a link to the RIVERWIND cd and I'm sure he'll sell you the other upon request. Both sell for $19.95 each plus shipping.

Posted: 4/13/10 at 5:59pmThe soundtrack to "1776". And I guess mostly because I want it as a completist as opposed to any real value, the soundtrack to "A Little Night Music".

Creepy. That song just started as I saw your comment. I wonder if the Angel master tapes are still around and who has custody of them. Geld and Udell are still with us I believe.
Every time I think of Angel I am forced to think of Joel Higgins and Don Scardino who both performed in Angel as young men. Higgins was the dad in Silver Spoons. Recently I've noticed that Scardino (who was the lead in the short-lived King of Hearts and was way cute) is currently a producer and director on my favorite half-hour of television, the hilarious 30 Rock.
It would be great to see Angel on cd and with the proper artwork on the cover to boot.
