So are you excited, for those of us who are waiting, for the album?
It would also be nice to hear what people think of it. . .

Any album that features the brilliant Douglas Hodge as Albin is going to work for me. Sooooooo glad to have this permanent reminder of his brilliant performance.
Downloaded from iTunes late last night and am just now listening. I love the dialog and reprises. Although I miss the full orchestra, I like the new reduced sound as well.
Kelsey Grammer sounds wonderful. Douglas Hodge is going to grow on me I hope. Right now I find him odd and annoying and out of sync with the sound of the rest of the cast. I really hate the way he sings consonants when they end the line - "a little more mascara onnnnnnnnnnn." Garland and Sinatra might have gotten away with that, but that's really poor technique.
BUT, I'm loving the overall sound and presentation of the show.

For those interested...
Barnes & Noble.com has the La Cage really cheap today - at $9. Not sure how long the discount is good for, but it's 52% off.
Also, BN.com is also making available for pre-order the new Les Miz 25th Anniversary Tour recording available for under $10. That's significantly cheaper than Amazon.com and even Amazon.co.uk. Looks like that's a double CD too and will be shipped from BN.com when it's released here in a couple of weeks.

That's kind of the point. Hodge's Albin is an amalgamation of impersonations because his Albin isn't comfortable in his own skin so "puts on" these other personas throughout. It's why he does imitations of Merman, Deitrich, et al during the title song. It isn't until the end of the show that Albin can finally actually BE the living embodiment of his Act 1 closer "I Am What I Am." Sheer brilliance!
He does Monroe, Piaf and Dietrich. Not Merman, though.
Grabbed the album myself and I really like it. Got it for just $12 at Barnes & Noble.
I've only heard pieces of it but it sounds like it's another one of those cast recordings with LOTS of dialogue, annoyingly so.
I really liked it but - whre's the overture? That short prologue just doesn't do it for me. I wonder why they cut the overture that you hear in the theater?

You can listen to samples of each number at amazon.com. I just did---they're much better than I'd thought. I'm partial to the Gene Barry version and thought the smaller orchestration would detract, but it really works. I'll probably order one.
