The 2004 La Cage started off strong at the box office (in 2004 numbers) and then fell off a cliff after 12 weeks. What that indicates is that it had a strong advance sale, meaning people were interested in the title, but that word of mouth in the production was not good or sufficient enough for the show to build on its sales.
I've talked about the London production here before, so I won't go into great detail. It plays very well though and creates a wonderful, electric mood in the theatre. I think it will be better reviewed than the last production (Brantley has already blessed it) and hope New York audiences have as much fun with it as the audience I saw it with in London did.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
