Wasnt La Cage on Broadway about 5 years ago? And then they revived Into The Woods less than 10 years after the original? And let's not talk about Les Miz!

Do producers really think we want to see a show that just closed so quickly? I won't be suprised if Rent is announced for this fall.

They did the same thing with "Gypsy" (2003, then 200La Cage: How Can We Miss You If You Dont Go Away. The reason was producers found the new incarnations of these shows to be profitable and possible hits.

"La Cage" was a smash on the West End and won many Oliver awards, including one for Douglas Hodge (who is coming over to play Albin here). It's probable that producers thought that the last incarnation was a failure and since this new incarnation was a hit elsewhere, it may have likewise success here.

Well, those of us who didn't think the last revival was very good might relish the chance to see a fresh new staging of this show.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I had a friend whose parents saw "La Cage" back in '04 and they hated it (save for Gavin Creel as Jean-Michel).

They are extremely excited to see this new version (especially since they are both BIG Frasier fans)

How long did it run on the West End? I'd be perfectly happy to see it succeed, but can't say I'm very excited to see Frasier in this show.

It ran about 14 months on the West End, but I beleive it was originally a limited engagement at the Meinier Chocolate facotry, but was extended mutiple times with multiple casts. It finally closed since it was transferring.

EDIT: This production ran for about two years on the West End, following a limited run at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Hodge, who did two or three stints in this production throughout its run, was also followed in the role by Graham Norton and John Barrowman. Among the Georges were Denis Lawson and Philip Quast.

I saw the original La Cage in 1983 and absolutely loved it. Ergo, I was happy when they did the revival in 2005 -- at least, until I saw it. I wrote it off that, well, maybe that show, per se, wasn't all that great to start with. I am SO looking forward to this revival -- in the right hands, this show is a delight!
