Carmen (June 5-July 22)
Music by John Ewbank, book by Sarah Miles, lyrics by AnnMarie Milazzo
The first musical theatre venture from director Franco Dragone, veteran of Cirque du Soleil as well as the Las Vegas productions of Celine Dion's "A New Day..." and Le Rêve. Based on Prosper Mérimée's novella, the new work follows the classic story told from the perspective of the soldier who falls for the beautiful gypsy seductress.
The Deception (June 17-Aug. 19)
Adapted by Steven Epp and Dominique Serrand
Serrand will stage the Theatre de la Jeune Lune's co-production based on Pierre Marivaux's "La Fausse Suivante" about "a young girl [who] dresses as a man to learn more about her husband-to-be."
after the quake (July 24-Aug. 26)
Adapted by Frank Galati
Galati directs his Steppenwolf Theatre production (co-presented with Berkeley Repertory Theatre) based on Haruki Murakami short stories set in the aftermath of the 1995 Kobe, Japan, earthquake.
The Adding Machine (Sept. 11-Oct. 7)
Written by Elmer Rice Daniel Aukin stages the revival of the 1923 tale of "a numbers cruncher of 25 years who, after being informed he will be replaced by a machine, murders his boss."
Cry-Baby (Oct. 30-Dec. 16)
Book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, lyrics and music by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger
Mark Brokaw stages the new musical based on the film by John Waters about "the baddest boy in town" who falls for a good girl in 1954's Baltimore.
The Seven (Feb. 12-March 16, 2008 )
Will Power's hip-hop adaptation of Aeschylus' Seven Against Thebes
Jo Bonney directs the Power-penned tale that follows the struggles of Eteocles and Polynices, the two sons of the cursed King Oedipus, as they fight for the throne of Thebes. Bill T. Jones (Spring Awakening) choreographs.
Most Wanted (Oct. 2-14)
Music and lyrics by Mark Bennett, book and lyrics by Jessica Hagedorn
Michael Greif directs this Page to Stage workshop production of the musical that focuses on "America's obsession with the cult of wealth and celebrity through the lens of the media frenzy surrounding Andrew Cunanan," killer of legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace, who was found dead in a Florida houseboat.
A Page to Stage production of book writer-lyricist Steven Sater and composer Duncan Sheik's musical The Nightingale was slated to be workshopped at La Jolla. The magical tale centering on a young Emperor in Ancient China penned by the Spring Awakening musical team has been omitted from the season. Details could not be ascertained at press time.

You call three new musicals (one that features a book written by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan) one new workshop (directed by Michael Greif)and three plays (one directed by Frank Galati) a LAME season? Wow.

i think cry-baby will be like hairspray. Weren't they looking for a house last year and there was none of the right size? Either way, i can't wait for this season. All of those plays sound amazing. I want to see the wiz again!
