I'm really excited to see this thread taking life. Thank you Erika for starting it. I talked with a fellow Ovation voter last night who'd not even heard of the show. I thought "Sacrilege!!! How could you not know about The Wild Party???" So whatever buzz we can create here is great and highly deserved. Though his performance is perhaps not as "powerhouse" as that of many others in the cast, I wanted to call your attention to the oh so handsome Innis Casey who plays Black. He's not only gorgeous to look at but sings well, and has a great story to boot. (My friend Michael and I chatted with him after the show.) This Burbank boy graduated from college and went to Mexico in 1999 with no singing experience and no knowledge of Spanish to study the language and culture. He did know how to play the guitar and started singing Ranchero songs as a way to learn the language better. He was "discovered" and signed to a record contract and became a big star in Latin America with two CDs and numerous hits! (I bought his first (excellent) CD (perfect accent) and the other is on the way.) He was on 24 in a recurring role and is now persuing his career here, exchanging his stardom south of the border for a chance at a career here in the US. Anyway, I'm a fan now and you'll get to discover him too when you see The Wild Party. (That's lucky me with Innis in the top photo._

Innis is definitely very easy on the eyes and he's very sweet in person. He's also STRAIGHT and SINGLE, ladies!

sorry, but credits aside, he was such a weak link...not impressed at all.

Proves my point in an earlier post.
I am not going to claim that he's on the same stellar level as most of the ensemble but he can carry a tune and he can play the part of a gigolo convincingly.
I'm glad you liked it. I saw the original in NY and thought the music was great and the story was much more faithful to the poem. Having said that, I am not surprised that it didn't run long. It is really hard to like any of these characters, so most audiences have a problem sitting through two hours of Burrs and Queenie et al.
I knew there'd be someone to knock down Innis. There always is at BWW.com.

To be fair, since I never saw him, the role of Black is very wooden - even though there is some characterization - it's a hard role to pull off - you are the guy who goes to the party and ends up with someone different. Not easy to convince the audience to like you.

All I know is that as he was making his way down the aisle to enter the scene, I could hear the silent wolve wistles coming from every straight girl and gay guy around me! He's prety hot. And yes, his character wasn't really all that developed for me.

ummmmm
a) an opinion is an opinion and
b) my friends who went with me, who have nothing to do with BBW.com felt he was lacking.
As talked about earlier, most of these characters are kinda hard to like....it wasnt the 'character' i felt was weak, it was the one portraying the character.
Anywho---Small quibbling....I loved the show and hope it runs a good long time.
I agree that Black is a hard role to really shine in - Yancy Arias had a similar problem in the original production. The guy arrives late and stays on the periphery of the action. What he must have is chemistry with Queenie which, I thought, Casey DID have. He and Valarie Pettiford were good together.
