allofmylife, it seems as if you've never heard of song interpretation.
I think the composers of GUYS & DOLLS were intelligent enough to know such a thing exists, a concept you don't seem to be aware of.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Posted: 3/8/09 at 9:40pmIt's such a shame about Platt and Graham. I really admire both of the as actors (especially Graham, I love her on Gilmore Girls), but they were horribly miscast. I saw a brief clip online of them singing "Sue Me" and I was thoroughly disappointed. The song had no life. Lane and Prince on the other hand are simply amazing doing that song.

I'm not saying that Platt and Graham are perfect, but I don't see how you can say that they were horribly miscast when you haven't seen the show and are judging based solely on a "brief clip online."
I wasn't crazy about Platt as Nathan, but I did enjoy Lauren Graham's take on Adelaide. And I do think some of the show's problems stem from the direction and not the actors.

I'm not saying I agree, or disagree. Just another way of looking at it

No, I don't direct any more. I produce. And I don't do musicals anymore, I do movies.
When I did do revial productions, I tried to be faithful to the original intentions of the creators of a show - not dogmatically rigid - but I knew that I was not the co-writer of the score, or the co-librettist, or the co-choreographer.
If someone went and added four new lines of lyrics to a Sondheim show - or even West Side Story, this site would be full of righteous indignation. Why should performers be given a pass? I just feel that Loesser knows best and I'll let him lead the way.

Uhh, the performers didn't add any material, they just gave their take on their role and that worked perfectly with the vision of the director and the specific production as a whole.
Thank heavens you don't direct anymore, I can only imagine...

- Didn't you know that he directed the first WSS production that incorporated Spanish? He loves to make it sound that way.

Well, it was thirty six years ago and I doubt if it was the first of anything. After spending a great deal of time having a section of the Sharks' dialogue translated - twice to make sue of exactly what was being said, one of the actors said "Yeah, we did that in community theater in 1966. Crap.
And as for blaxx's comment, I don't direct anymore. I parlayed that into a successful career in another area of the entertainment business, so you've been spared having to suffer through my directorial whims.
