A might?
I saw Larkin during previews, and while I thought she was good (better, at least, than the regional/community theatre Junes I've seen before), she didn't really live up to the hype. Patti, Laura, and Boyd, however, definitely did.
I think they meant "mite", as in, a small person or child.
I love Leigh Ann as June, personally.
I wish I had seen
Bundy's June.
I mean, she after all has had the most similar childhood of any actress who has played her.
I won't get into the details, as others have already done that. But Larkin and Benanti act (and sing) circles around LuPone. They make the production worth seeing.

Good to know. I've heard mixed reviews about Reinders. But overall, I personally believe (I totes just went South Carolina on all yall) that there aren't wrong choices in a lot of character roles. Course not that I would consider June a character role but I enjoy performances that make you talk and make you think. Like I heard Reinders lit up a cig in the middle of the scene between her and Louise. Like..it's those out-of-the-box things that make theater and revivals of good book shows interesting.
Actually, Laura Bell Bundy specifically stated in an interview that her life was nothing like Gypsy.

Everything she says as June is in a sarcastic tone. It got very old very fast. I definitely agree with what someone else said about her being very "one-note."

I was crazy about Larkin.
It's a really bizarre performance, but it worked for me. She is unabashedly hostile. And creepy. And Weird. But it works, in the context. And Larkin's performance sets up Benanti's terrific work.
