I thought Avenue Q was in Vegas? Has it not opened yet? Or did I completely miss it? I am going to vegas in late August, and wanna see something. Its between Avenue Q and O....let me know.
Lol thanks
"O" is amazing!!!! You will be amazed. Get your tix ASAP. I booked 4 months in advance and seating was limited. This is peak season too. You might also check out Celine if you like her. She was amazing! The new POTO might be worth seeing. Avenue Q and Hairspray closed rather quickly. You won't be at a loss for things to do. Cirque's Zumanity is very sexy and KA is great as well.

Las Vegas had the shortened version of Avenue Q, it wouldn't have been worth it, you are lucky to not be having to make a choice, it could have been the wrong one
And the award for Too Many Commas goes to...
Matt,
Did you SEE the shortened AVE Q version??? It was excellent. It closed because the marketing sucked!
As for choices, "O" is always amazing, Mystere is still fantastic and the new Cirque show "LOVE" with the music of the Beatles is very fun. If you really like POTO than go see it but...
Also, if you want an old time Vegas show there is Jubilee and Folies Bergere. Celine's show is very good but only worth that much money if your a fan. Depending on when you're here Elton John may be playing her theatre. Also, there's Barry Manilow who folks say gives a very good show, and he shares the room with Reba McEntire. Hope you enjoy your visit!

didn't see, but I heard of what they cut out and I didn't sound like it would be worth the money if you could get a chance to see the real version, also my parents and many freinds saw it and they told me all about it. It seemed good if you would never get the chance to see the real version, but if you do get a choice I wouldn't have wasted time seeing both, I would have only saw original.
You could alway do Le Reve at the Wynn. It's smaller scale, but it's supposed to be really good now.
Avenue Q Gone
Hairspray Gone
Spamalot "Delayed"
a trend?

I think the cuts were very appropriate, especially for this show. I mean, it does get kinda old after seeing puppets for more than an hour...
BTW, I did see the Las Vegas production in April.

Avenue Q ran for a total of 9 months, the first 5 of that run was the show in it's entire form. The cuts were implemented in January.
Coolkid, do you also get tired of seeing people after two hours? I hope not.
My boyfriend and I saw both Hairspray and Avenue Q, and loved both of them.
He has also seen La Reve twice, and loved it both times. We'll probably be going soon, once we have some more cash saved up. Add Phantom of that list too.
(On a side note, does anyone know why La Reve has a soundtrack and not a recording? They recently started selling the soundtracks to all the Cirque shows, so we bought Le Reve.)
And Matt: Grammar/Punctuation is your friend.
(ETA: We saw the full version of Avenue Q.)

Why not make the shows into dinner theaters? I think that would maybe attract more people.
BTW, is Mamma Mia a full version or a 90 min version as well?
FictionWriter, Matt hasn't yet discovered the wonders of SpellCheck....he apparently only has JUST discovered this forum and now is an EXPERT on Andrew Loyd Wright...er...Weber!! (see his other posts if you need explanations!)
As for MAMMA MIA in Vegas, it is the full show including intermission.
That is the great question!! Why does MAMMA MIA work but WE WILL ROCK YOU, HAIRSPRAY and AVE Q all failed?? You can say it's because people know ABBA'S music but they also EQUALLY know Queen's so that's not a great argument.
Can't wait to hear what you all think. I've live in Vegas since '95 and been involved with some of these shows or known friends that were.
I read this thread about RENT/WICKED killing youth, and replied, but no one's read my reply.
I've lived here for about a year, and it's been enjoyable. I just wish we could spend more money on shows.
We are seeing CATS, for it's one night only performance. (What's up with that?)

Mr. Tuttle:
Where did you hear that the Las Vegas Spamalot was delayed?
Spamalot was originally announced to open this New Years Eve, but now they are scheduled for a May 2007 opening. They were also supposed to have a theatre built for them and now they have to use the AVE Q theatre.
As for CATS, it's playing from the 27-30...hardly one night. But it's also been here several times and the Aladdin is not the best venue to see shows in. It will be great once the PAC is built and we have REAL theatres for tours to play in.

Well, I've been hearing great things about Phantom. But it does cost quite a bit of dough.

For one thing, WE WILL ROCK YOU is horrible, Queen music aside. I saw the full "Q" and the audience seemed to love it. It is quite a mystery why things are mostly miss when it comes to Broadway shows playing Sin City.

Just avoid Ka, or Kaka from suck du so lame
You will want to see it due to its amazing commercial, but it is boring and not spectacular.
I also cannot imagine how a company with such amazing shows (especially "o"") can come up with such a mind-blowingly bad show.
"Mystery" is a good word for it.
Cirque just announced that they will have 9 shows on the Strip soon!! I've posted a link to the article.
Here's an excerpt:As for the growth of Cirque in Las Vegas, reliable chatter is that there are preliminary plans for nine Cirque productions on the Strip by the end of the decade, including the new Luxor show, the Elvis-themed production at MGM Mirage's Project CityCenter, a production to replace "Mamma Mia!" once it plays out at Mandalay Bay, and show No. 9 at an unspecified hotel — possibly a children's show at Excalibur to counter the adult-themed "Zumanity."
Las Vegas Sun says 9 Cirque shows!!
I agree, Bwaylvsong, about "Ka". The technical aspects are incredible, but I would have enjoyed it just as much without any of the performers on that stage. I saw a show in Beijing called The Legend of Kung Fu that was 100 times better. It made me think someone from Cirque saw it and wanted to do an Asian/Martial Arts show. Unfortunately they failed miserably when it comes to storytelling. At least with "Love" they have gotten back to telling a good story.
