Just picked up The Last Five Years and am in love with it! I'm just wondering how this production is staged. Do they ever interact with eachother on their solos? Thanks so much!

It's very interesting how they stage it...It's almost as if the two of them use each other as props. For instance the when Cathy is singing "See I'm Smiling" Jamie's actually sitting there on the pier. But as I remember, they never actually touched each other in any song except The Next 10 Minutes...because that's when they're in the same time frame.

This musical is my number one....always glad when more people get it and run with it.

I always try to save a couple of the marshmallows till the very end but I never make it. I always end up with a bunch of flake things and pink milk...my mind wanders. - Garden State

To clarify what DirtyRottenScoundrel was saying, the staging is not set. It is up to the director to stage it however they choose, though many have utilized both actors in a lot of the scenes. When I staged it, the only interaction they ever had was for the 20-30 seconds in Next 10 Minutes, though there were some crossover scenes where it looked like they were interacting. There are really no stage directions in the script, so it's up to the director.
