Has anyone seen Dessa Rose recently? I just wanted to know if LaChanze and Rachel York have been in the show consistently. I remember reading that LaChanze was absent for a while. Is she back in? I already saw it with both of them but the guy I am taking next Friday really wants to see LaChanze and Rachel York. I will feel so bad if one of them isn't there because he will be very disappointed.
Also, does anyone have any inside information as to when the cast recording is coming out? Will it be a double CD? I really loved this show. Thanks so much.

I was there Sunday night and everyone was in except Norm Lewis.
Phenomenal show. I can't wait for the CD.

I also saw it last Sunday. All were in except Norm Lewis.
Interesting story supported by mediocre music.
I loved this show, WithoutA. I hope you (and the guy you're taking!) see Norm, LaChanze and Rachel, because they were all extraordinary.
When is the run of this show supposed to end? I'm hoping it will still be there at the end of May.
Thanks.
Wow, it was like a BWW gathering at that show, I was there too on Sunday night. La Chanze seemed fine, didn't notice anything that would seem like she's sick. So if both ladies stay in good health, I assume you'd see both.

I have a ticket to the final show...should be great...
...and the last show is when?
Saw the show April 2 (before LaChanze's long absence began), and caught the whole cast. Great performances (esp. York and Lewis), okay music/lyrics, awful book. Will still buy the CD, of course. Have fun!
First time I saw it was April 5th...and I saw the whole cast. Very excited to see it again next Friday.
The last performance of "Dessa Rose" is May 29.
Thank you, MEF!

I saw Dessa around the time that it opened. I thought that the music was amazing. I loved the first number of the show. I thought that it was one of the strongest songs. I'm glad I got to see the show with the entire off Bway cast before all of this mess with LaChanze being sick business. I didn't get as much from the show as I thought I would have. To me, only the music was memorable. If it weren't for the fact that I keep my playbills, I may have forgotten that I saw the show. The book was less than fullfilling for a wonderful score.
Quite enjoyable . Too bad it is closing & await the CD
The entire original cast including LaChanze and Norm Lewis were in the show last Friday night and were amazing!
Saw it tonight (Wed) and LaChanze was out (again). It was absolutely amazing though.

i loved this show... i thought it had the most amazingly strong score ever and i can't wait for the recording.. word is that they're making a double disc of the whole show because they don't want to leave out any of the music because it's being considered a "folk opera" where everything is dependent on the rest of the score... i'm all for it!

I saw it Tuesday (5/10) and LaChanze was in.
Both she and Rachel York are giving strong performances that stay with you. Norm Lewis is also good. Some lovely melodies.
Overall, a moving evening of musical theatre.
I give it 4 out of 5 Bulldogs!
I see it for my second time in two days!!!!!!! Yay!!
I'll post a review this time.
Saw Dessa for the third time last night. LaChanze was out (i've seen her twice already.) I was disappointed with her understudy. She sang beautifully, but did not have the anger that LaChanze brought to the role. I didn't believe this Dessa could start a revolt. When the understudy says 'your mammy would rather eat glass than call you her own' i didn't buy it.
