People that are so negative is the reason shows do not run on Broadway. Well, that's definitely why Cats closed so quickly. And Motown shuttered in less than a week!
I also bet you that 90% of the people that pick so much paid 30.00 a ticket. So they go to too many shows and after a while become jaded. Well, that is certainly a convenient excuse, but it discounts anyone who disliked THIS ONE SHOW regardless what the person you know nothing about has ever seen previously. Getting all bent out of shape because others don't like a show you enjoyed says less about them than it does about you.
This is a Drama Musical, not a Patti Lupone Gypsy, or Showboat, or Mame. Gypsy and Showboats are drama musicals. The Last Ship is not set apart as being a new genre.
So basically, the new rule is, the site should be censored to reflect only positive opinions.
Entertainment asks its audience to suspend belief and join their world for a few hours and be entertained. But if someone is not entertained, they should not be allowed to tel anyone about, especially WHY they felt they were entertained. Because that's unfair. The only honest opinions are favorable opinions. If you don't like something, you certainly should not say anything here. Or just lie. Something like that. That goes for ANY show ANYONE doesn't like!
Personally, I think perhaps the other thread(s) might seem so negative because there are fewer positive reviews from people than negative. It happens sometimes, Even to shows we may have enjoyed. At least I think it's happened before. At least once.
I also am tired of people comparing it to Billy E. or other shows. Why can't it just be a show on its own. It can. Doesn't stop someone from being reminded of one show when watching another. Especially when the shows may have some elements in common. I certainly saw The Last Ship for what it was in Chicago and did not compare it to Billy Elliot at all when I originally posted my thoughts on it. I only responded to the comparison when someone else brought it up as a topic of conversation.
As long as we're all deciding what people are allowed to post on the boards, I've decided nobody is allowed to be so closed-minded as to whine and bitch about others posting negative opinions about a show they liked. Perhaps that's the real problem with the "negative" threads.
