Yeah.... Avenue Q is like the simplest musical out there and I guess they wanted to give to a smaller musical this time after what happened with Urinetown and Millie the year before, which is kinda dumb cause Wicked is so much better, musically and acting wise.

I agree... Wicked is just so beautifully orchestraed and so simply lovely that I dont understand how Avenue Q which is so gross and nasty at points won over such beauty.

I don't think AQ is gross at all - it's a great show...but there are shows I like a lot more...

I just meant like its kind of rauchy like would you take a 10 year old to see Avenue Q or Wicked? Im not a parent from a parent would think it was gross and rauchy and choose Wicked is more kid friendly

well there are parts that are rather raunchy, but you really can't make a show that is catered to everyone. It just isn't possible. The general public who loves to see large spectacles with singing and dancing, like 42nd street, is probably a much different audience than that of rent. It really depends on what show you are talking about, and you can't determine which show is better by what type of audience they have.

What did you two think of Wonderful Town?

Well in my opinion. One can't really make a true decision unless you've seen everything nominated. Awards also shouldn't be given for humable tunes and family friendly lyrics. I think it should be about the art. for best score, it really should be A. Are the tunes good? B. how do they connect together (themes motifs etc.)? C.Musicalized dramatic moments (how they serve the character etc.) Same with the performers. how they sang the role, how difficult the role was, how they did with the difficulty, consistancy and general goodnes. All that being said I think most of the Tony's were fair except for Best Score and Leading Actress. Score should have went to Caroline. You don't realize it until you get the actual score and look at what Jeanine and Tony did. It's really quite breathtaking. Tonya def shoulda won best actress. Her entire performance was much more varied, consistant and all in all more difficult than Idina's. Don't get me wrong I looooooved Wicked, but it was just a tough year. I got a large impression of "great art" from Wicked, but Caroline or Change was a bit greater to me.

I agree on ur reasons and yes, Caroline was quite good but I mean it was an underdog just like Avenue Q and Wonderful Town while Boy from Oz n Wicked were frontrunners

Ohh yeah def. I was quite surprised Wicked didn't win. I swore it would. I have no idea why it didn't. I actually loved Wonderful Town. I know a lot of people didn't like it. Scott Nevins seems to think it was sorta crappy but i loved the show. It's not West Side but I loved it. I LOOOOOOOVED Donna Murphy. The fact that she added so many jazz and popular culture icon impressions to Swing was what sold me on her performance. It was wonderful. She's a great actress. I didn't like Jennifer Westfeldt at all, but it wasn't so bad. I was there for Donna. I left the theatre happy and glad I saw it. AND I saw it front row for $25

I loved WONDERFUL TOWN...I think the show itself is lacking in a lot of spots, but it was a fantastic revival of a pretty bad show.

But I disagree with what you said about WICKED...not the best musical, and definitely not the best score at all.
