Yes I agree with Margo also, those would be some good roles for her. She was outstanding in Chicago.
It's funny that her greater roles happened before she got to be the star that she is now. Movies like "Set it Off", "Living Out Loud", even "Bone Collector" (by then, I was tired of watching her die). I like that she has versatility and can play anything (considering that her role in Taxi was originally written for a white male). I also think it's great that she is the first female rap artist to become a household name. Anyone see her on SNL? She definately showed her versatility there...
I would love to see Patti, Aretha, or even Darlene Love as Motormouth Maybelle. And I agree that Latifah just isn't right for Effie. She's cute and all, but I found her acting to be the weakest in Chicago. It was a bit too contemporary and deliberate for the role. She's getting better, but she's far from Effie material yet. I haven't seen her give an acting performance yet that doesn't appear that she's trying too hard.
Justice, just because her agent is getting her all this movie work doesn't mean she's a great actress. Just popular.(Paris Hilton, hello?)
I personally like Queen Latifah, as a personality. I think she has a lot of growing to do as an actress.
Have any of you seen Set it Off?
With all this discussion, no one has mentioned the real Effie, Florence Ballard. And while Flo may have been "the" heart & soul of The Supremes, her voice was nowhere as good as Holliday's.
I once heard a rumour...back in the mid-60s, the were talks of casting Florence in an all-black version of Hello Dolly. Does anyone know if this is fact or fiction.
It would be cool if Sheryl Lee,Loretta,Jennifer & Deborah (or her sister Terry since nobody seems to have seen Deborah in a while)should play there original characters in the beginning of the movie, Then flashback to tell the story.
