Lazarus Transfer

Lazarus is apparently being considered to be transferred onto Broadway. Hope Michal C. Hall stays with it if it does transfer.

He's great in the show. Hoping he stays with it if it does transfer. Krystina Alabado is out - she's going to be in American Psycho.

Is it aiming for this season? Are there even any theaters available in the spring before the Tony cutoff?

Lazarus Transfer

This has been talked about extensively in other threads. It's not moving this season if it's moving at all. There are no theaters left.

The commercial producer didn't mention Broadway to the New York Times this week. He mentioned London. I assume the OP is going by Riedel's column which gave no new info.

They also mentioned a potential transfer to a commercial Off-Broadway theater (where I think it would fare better).

It should go to New World Stages!

That would make a lot of sense, even if NWS hardly gives off a prestige vibe. I think Maurice Heines is only about 10 weeks?

Has anything been announced for the Union Square Theater? 39 Steps just closed. Seems like it would be a good fit.

Lazarus is a top-notch, expensive production. Not even considering the star power of the cast, paying for the musicians is a considerable sum, given number of them and their caliber. And the electronics and the projections don't come cheap. Even though I didn't like the show, it impossible to deny it's a first-rate production. Any Lazarus incarnation geared for NWS or Union Square Theater would have to be scaled way way back, and then it wouldn't be the same show. I think it's Broadway, West End, or nothing, and tell you the truth, I don't see it as a commercial property.

macnyc, I completely agree

Lazarus Transfer

The show itself may not be a commercial property, but the fact that it's composer just died, and was a very famous songwriter with legions of fans... is enough for any commercial producer to want to transfer it immediately and take advantage of that (as bad as that sounds.)

Honestly given the caliber of the production - creative side and acting side - I'm surprised this wasn't Broadway bound from the start. It might not be commercial and I can't imagine any regional theater doing it, so I'm kind of confused as to what the point of the whole thing is? But I'd still love to see it.
