Lea Michele

One of the most embarrassing moments of an uber embarrassing Tony Awards ceremony. The girl can try to imitate Streisand all she wants, but she ain't Streisand. She ain't even Kaye Ballard.

I preferred her performance of the song on Glee. I think because she was playing a mid western small town kid there and it was the emotional resonance of her oversized talent for that local singing competition.

I was most baffled by the very busy arrangement. So much going on.

Yuck. I don't hate Lea Michele as a performer as much as other people here, but that was a hot mess. She looked like she was going to take a dump while walking down the aisle. And she sounds way too intense in her singing. And her stopping to sit is not impressive because it was Jonathan Groff, who she has ties to.

If you want good, in my opinion, look at Sara Ramirez at the 2005 Tonys. She was sick and still sounded fantastic.

If you honestly think Lea Michele was better than that, I really question your taste.

Carlos, that was a little harsh from someone I've talked to before and thought we were at least kind to each other and had some similar things we like. Like I said in the thread she has her haters and those people who like her AT DIFFERENT TIMES.

(And I only started the thread because someone started a thread with her singing MY MAN.) Now I acknowledge I should have just put this in that thread. Sorry, no one's perfect.

How is that a fair comparison? Sarah sang that song 8 times a week for months. Of course she sounded fine on it when sick, any Broadway performer would (it's not even a hard song). Lea wasn't singing "dont rain" 8 times a week. Also " Find your grail" is not even close to the demanding vocal requirements that are needed for "don't rain on my parade".

You're comparing apples and oranges.

This post was so similar to Hamilton22's for a sec I thought they were the same person and forgot to log off as the other...lol (but then I saw that this thread had her name spelled correctly)

This performance (coming from someone who thinks Lea Michele is terrific) was pretty difficult to get through. But I thought Matt Morrison did a good job right after her performance.

She was a laughingstock here right after that aired.

Oh, you're right. I guess it is unfair that Lea basically did her performance from Glee live and did it worse here. She sounds like she's trying too hard and wants to stab someone with her words. That's honestly what I hear in that video.

Is the op high? Her rendition of the song was manic and the technical aspects of her voice leave a lot to be desired. She comes across as the girl in high school drama class that everyone hated... Not because she had more talent than you, but because she was just louder.

If we're talking impressive vocals on DROMP, I suggest you listen to Linda Eder. No one can sing it quite like her and she can do it live, night after night, with no problem.

just proved how annoying and self adsorbed she is with this performance.

The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. Sorry Steve, I can be a bit on the abrasive side. Nothing personal towards you really. Lea Michele brings out a violent reaction in me. I should have just responded like Namo did. He's much more eloquent than I can ever hope to be.

Except that it's not comparing apples and oranges at all; both are female singers who were given the opportunity to sing the song live on national television. If Lea Michele was invited to sing on the Tonys, then she should have been expected to practice her butt off to sing the song just as well as any Broadway actress, even one who's used to singing the song eight times a week. It is a completely fair comparison to make, ESPECIALLY considering that Sara Ramirez was sick when she had her TV performance. What's Lea's excuse?
