Rumor: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL to close in August?

Jul 15, 2026 — 11:12:08 PM

99.9% of people here are waxing poetic about the business of Broadway without ever having seen a producer's contract or having put one dollar into a show. Bottom line, it's a tough business. I've put money into 10 shows. Only one paid me back. This show was a niche show. It was never going to tour. It was not destined to have a long run.And to those who say the dancing was unsustainable, both Dancin' and Fosse are just two shows that are much more difficult to dance and had much longer runs on...

Rumor: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL to close in August?

Jul 13, 2026 — 11:23:51 PM

The numbers this show was running were awful... I'm surprised it went on this long.Broadway is a business. Too many people here with no skin in the game make it ridiculously personal.

Chances of a Jekyll & Hyde or Wildhorn Return?

Jul 12, 2026 — 5:45:40 PM

She would never do it as Eder is adverse to 8-show weeks, but I'd love to see something written for her by Frank that would continue to show off her voice.Honestly, she can still sing most any show he's already written for her, but it's more an aging out thing.Dare to dream.

What happened to Julie Taymor?

Jan 31, 2026 — 12:16:18 PM

Taymor is a visionary. Always has been. Always will be. She takes risks. Swings big.Sure, it hasn't always worked, but I defy anyone to say that the production design of Spiderman 1.0 wasn't brilliant. There was nothing like it and hasn't been since. Again, a massive risk that didn't pay off.I admire directors who swing big. More than I can say for most of the mundane **** that's on Broadway now.

Billy Porter on Nicki Minaj

Jan 31, 2026 — 12:14:15 PM

It's not hate for Porter. It's his unwavering inability to read a room and make better choices. It's also him, as always, thinking he's an A or B lister when he's not. He's clinging onto remaining a 'personality' with his antics.

Kecia Lewis is offended again

Dec 14, 2025 — 6:55:47 PM

Bayardelle was the best sung Celie in Color Purple I've ever heard. When I saw her in the Chicago company, her voice literally make me stop breathing for a second. That said... Kecia has been in this biz for how long and she's still this thin-skinned?

Disney Broadway Concerts at Epcot - Anyone Gone?

Nov 7, 2025 — 8:11:41 PM

Worth it... Eh. Not entirely. It's basically a Broadway show for the people there who have neither the culture nor the attention span for an entire one.In the couple of times I've been, it feels like none of the performers are giving it 100%. It's a paycheck. It's a quick show. It's mostly harmless.

Marilyn Maye at 54 Below

Nov 4, 2025 — 12:19:30 AM

Maye is a performer's performer. Everyone should know her name, but sadly a lot do not. She's a legend for good reason. So glad you posted about her here.

DREAMGIRLS is finally returning to Broadway

Oct 23, 2025 — 9:45:52 PM

Re: LaChanze pulling outYeah, there's a story. As she's a friend of the family, I'm also quite grateful she gave us the heads up early that she wasn't going to end up investing in the show. We were approached as well and were close to pulling the trigger. And now, we're not. I don't see this show doing well with the crop of producers they have at the moment. A lot of cooks in this kitchen, all of whom will want to get their way.

RAGTIME 2025 Reviews

Oct 20, 2025 — 12:53:44 PM

quizking101 said: "Speaking of Audra, unfortunately, you could tell that Nichelle Lewis was definitely not the first choice Sarahthey wanted for this production. She has talent, but this score is WAY out of her league and when you are vocally paired with a male powerhouse, the disparity is much more clear. At times her voice sounded thin and pitchy. I doubt Joy Woods would’ve been any better, but I know Joaquina Kalukango would’ve been able to match Henry note for note and be a strong scene p...

'Romy & Michele' - Off-Bway Previews

Oct 17, 2025 — 1:49:51 AM

Saw it tonight. Yikes. Not even bad in a great way. They didn't lean into the natural camp of the show, changed some of the iconically funny lines from the film and I can't tell you ONE song from the show.Laura Bell is working her ass off up there to save this turkey, milking out as much physical comedy as she can.

Jennifer Lopez to Star in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Film

Oct 13, 2025 — 2:33:11 PM

Lopez can dance, but there's something off in her performance on this. She's working so hard and you can see it. Nothing looks magical or effortless. It's the antithesis of what a musical should feel like.

Trisha Paytas -> Beetlejuice

Oct 10, 2025 — 3:43:28 PM

I want Broadway to do well, but when I see **** like this, I don't.Casting garbage like her is pandering to the lowest audience member. Stop that ****.

DREAMGIRLS is finally returning to Broadway

Sep 16, 2025 — 1:25:28 AM

Just not Alex Newell. Being able to sing one song doesn't mean you can get the entire score, plus acting, under your belt.I don't see Newell being able to really sell me as Effie White. And then there's Newell's reliability issues in shows.
