According to broadway.com, Mrs. Salonga would love to be involved with the film, but not in it. She would rather be behind-the-scenes as a vocal coach.
I guess that 's ok...

My biggest pet peeve right now is when people pronounce it "Marry-us" and not "Mah-ree-us".

"I'm 17 and I'm new here to day"....

I looking forward to Lea Salonga in Allegiance but very glad she's not staring in the Miss Saigon film.

Hopefully they can find another part for her ala Colm Wilkinson in Les Miserables movie.

I was not hoping that she would star in it, just that she might get a clever cameo in the film; especially after she became so famous after all the work she did for that musical.

Any cameo by her would be too distracting, IMO.

I don't think it would be any more distracting to a large number of people than Colm Wilkinson or Frances Ruffelle showing up in the movie version of Les Mis. A nice little nod to the theatre fans and a complete over the head for the non-fans.

Was Chits Rivera's cameo distracting in Chicago? No, and it was a cute moment.

I think Lea could be one of the girls in the bar or something like that.

Wasn't there one named Gigi? With a pin up her a**? I vote that!

It was cute, but yes, it was distracting.

I think it was lovely with Colm W. in "Les Mis" and with Andrea McArdle in the TV "Annie." I could imagine it being lovely in "Miss Saigon," too, but I certainly wouldn't argue with someone who might have a problem with it.

But I think it can be done in a way that isn't gimmicky.

There really isn't a role for her in it. She is not the right type for Gigi and I believe at her age (not that she isn't beautiful or young-looking), she would not be comfortable wearing a bikini on screen as a bar girl. She could conceivably be a mama-san but she also does not have the right look for that. The best role for a cameo would likely be Kim's mother but I wouldn't want to see sweet Lea's face getting blown off either.

She should play Kim's mother, even if it is in a thought, a flashback, or on a picture that Kim is praying to, in the scene where she sings to her parents, right before Thuy returns as a ghost.

Colm in Les Mis was actually really distracting for me.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

Colm in Les Mis distracted me mainly because seeing him made me realize how many issues I had with the way Hugh Jackman was singing the score. I don't blame him for that, but it was slightly distracting.

That said, I wasn't at all distracted by Chita in Chicago or Frances Ruffelle in Les Mis.

the cameos in Les Mis didn't bother or distract me.. but Chita's cameo kinda did only because it almost felt like this immediate awkward transition shot of her as if it say "look here's Chita Rivera"... i know i'm not explaining this right.. ugh...

broadwaybabytn, if it is distracting because it makes one realize the difference in singing quality, they should have cast better people for the other parts too. In this case I would call Hugh Jackman the distracting one. And blame the producers.
