Posted: 5/7/07 at 10:41amHow long are the leads contracted for? Will they be there may of 08? Especially LBB?

Posted: 5/7/07 at 11:15amMost people have a one year contract. As to LBB she will probably sit down with the producers next year and figure out something.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 2:07pmBundy is the weakest person in the cast. The show won't suffer in the least if she left. In fact, I'd say it would only improve.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 2:17pmThe role IS hard to cast. That's the problem. You need a triple threat with enough star wattage to overcome the Witherspoon shadow and lead a major Broadway musical with sincerity and spunk. Bundy doesn't fill that. Her understudies do.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 2:29pmIt may be hard to get someone to play it well, but I think the fans of the show will like it no matter who's playing Elle. From all accounts, Bundy didn't set the bar that high so it wouldn't be that difficult to find someone who would at least meet it.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 4:02pmI can wholeheartedly concur with that and by all accounts she was "better" in SF when I saw her and *that's* not going to be hard to replace at all.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 5:04pmI'm not sure if Annaleigh Ashford, based on her completely underwhelming and humourless performance as Glinda, fits that description either, broadwayguy2.

i agree that the role is hard to cast. I know there are the blondes out there, Hilty, reinders, BUtler (can't dance at all), but none of those girls really have star quality. I say find a diamond in the rough like they did when they found carly jibson for hairspray. she wasn't a name at 18 right out of highschool, yet I dare say the BEST tracy turnblad.
Find a nice college girl with energy and pipes to boot, and recast the thing. LBB is barely adequate and that was the best they could

Posted: 5/7/07 at 8:22pmI think that would be great, but aren't there lines in the script that refer to Elle as blonde? Not to mention the title.. She could probably do Vivian or some role like that though.

Well anything is possible on Broadway nowadays-just take a look ! It would take some reworking, but considering the candy machine that it is i bet it wouldnt matter. Change some lines, switch her "Beyonce" wig for one a little more blonde, and you got it made.
Again, just a thought, a crazy thought.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 10:21pmthey may have to change some things, but if they wanted to do it they could.
#22re: Legally Blonde Cast Contract
Posted: 5/7/07 at 10:25pmI'd be willing to be that if the show runs for a couple years a black Elle will be cast sooner or later.

Posted: 5/7/07 at 10:38pmI think if the script was tweaked it would work well, but it makes me wonder how much tweaking would be necessary. The good thing about Legally Blonde is that so many of the roles can be color blind cast, like Vivien, Warner, Emmet, Paulette, Callahan, the sorority girls, etc. Those roles are perfect for any race.
