Legally Blonde at the Tony Awards

I noticed today when BroadwayWorld posted on their Facebook the tony performance of Legally Blonde. It wasn't Laura Bell Bundy performing it was Becky Gulsvig, who did it on tour. Since Laura is the original Elle why didn't she perform?

That was a performance from the touring production not the Broadway production.

Legally Blonde had closed on Broadway by the time that performance was on the Tony Awards.  And LBB had long left the production anyway.

No, because they weren't nominated for best musical, which nowadays that doesn't matter.

because for some reason, the organizers decided to allow for touring productions to take up some performance spots (obviously, the producers of the touring companies had to fork out money to appear on the Tonys)

It had to do with the American Theatre Wing celebrating Broadway Across America, I believe?
