I enjoy it enough, but it's not great quality. After hearing that 25th Anniversary of Les Mis which sounded like it was recorded in a studio, this doesn't even come close. I even think The Woman in White OLCR sounds better quality. A shame, but it is a nice recording to have... not terrible.
Really enjoy hearing different voices + the new lyrics they've put in. Some are not so good, but others work much more seemlessly!

It does sound pretty bad... other live recordings (Oliver!, Woman in White) sound much, much better.

i downloaded it from Itunes....i'm a fan in all honesty!
of course we're all used to Laura Bell Bundy and the rest of the OBC, but i love Sheridan Smith in everything she does, and this excels my expectations!
there are a lot of differences in the songs, i.e. lyric changes, different cues, timing changes, added dialouge in some places.
I personally think i like this version better than the OBC, it doesn't have the powerhouse voices but it does have a lot more to offer i think.
of course we're all used to Laura Bell Bundy and the rest of the OBC, but i love Sheridan Smith in everything she does, and this excels my expectations!

I think the recording is good, it sounds live and not studio manipulated like other Live cast recordings.
Sheridan is awesome, even better when you watch her live

2 badly produced recordings of this score.........this and the Broadway cast recording.......what can these show producers be thinking????

I prefer the original Broadway cast to their West End counterpart. They are okay, but no great. They could've done better. The cast tries too hard to sound American and it sounds fake and hard to believe they are Delta Nus in L.A. or intellectual students at Harvard. Okay for my collection, but I prefer to stick to the OBCR and the MTV airing I recorded on TV.

There are so many Broadway to West End transfers I would've liked to seen recorded. And they record this.

Could not disagree more. The girls on the OBCR sound thick as hell, i think if anything Sheridan and co toned it down, especially Sheridan, the role is far more human (the real tears from Smith and the emotion during Legally Blonde is heartbreaking).
This cast are great (minus a couple) but this she Sheridan's show here who is far superior to LBB. her energy, passion, emotion shine though far more, hence her rave reviews...including from your NY Times. I like LBB but seeing what Sheridan brought to the role made you see how much better LBB could have been.

...it sounds like a soundboard bootleg recording. Like literally they took the soundboard sound and just burned to CD.
Sometimes the ensemble is much louder than the principles ("Chip on My Shoulder," etc), and it makes the music seem more digital than I remember it sounding the theatre itself (Broadway, that is). The applause can be a tad too much as well ("Whipped into Shape," etc.) - I think that's why I prefer live recordings such as WiW's... they went back to clean up the performances.
I agree about the American accents - some of it sounds off. Sheridan sounds too deep at some parts even, I prefer Bell Bundy, but I don't hate her. Different though.

Does anyone know if Barnes & Nobles, Borders, or FYE is going to carry this? I prefer not to buy from Amazon and I'm not into Itunes. I saw this in London and it was highly entertaining. Of course...I enjoyed Love Never Dies also. I may not be the best choice for a critique. LOL

It is terrible. The sound quality is dreadful and Sheridan is awful. Her voice is thin, and lacks the range to competently perform the occasionally difficult numbers.
On stage her performance looks like a poor imitation of Laura Bell Bundy's. On CD, she sounds out of her depth.

I really enjoyed this recording and am SO glad to have it as a counterpart.

I don't know....It's interesting how some people claim the quality of this is better than the OBC. For me, it sounds cheap and as mentioned, like someone literally bootlegged the soundboard and put it on CD.

OK Sheridan is nothing like LBB, she has heart, energy and passion in the role...she is far better....and i like LBB. Sheridan does not have as strong a voice as her but her performance is head and shoulders...hence the reviews and the the press (incl the NY Times) falling all over her.

The reason it has more depth and energy is because this was taken from a LIVE performance, while the OBCR was a studio recording. You can't compare their energies because they're different.

TheatreFan4....I preordered this today from Borders...so "I guess I am getting it". Some friendly advice: I'm already aware of your less than average attributes. I wouldn't add being a smart alec to your mix. You can only go so far with the limitations you were already given.
