It'll definitely open. The show isn't a trainwreck...

re: Lennon delays opening

You people need to stop wishing shows close before they open. That's not very nice at all! I'm just sayin...

"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer

re: Lennon delays opening

Well what really sucks -is that an AP news flash has gone out to hundreds of local papers , saying "Lennon," the problem-plagued musical celebrating the life and songs of John Lennon, has pushed back its Broadway opening again" Do a google News search and you'll see what I mean.

They should have opened as is and avoided the negative press!

re: Lennon delays opening

I read the news and thought "Uh Oh"
delaying the opening might help fix the show, but I don't think it will help sell tickets...

re: Lennon delays opening

The time to overhaul this show was after San Francisco. I have a feeling the creative team thought, "maybe New Yorkers will appreciate our brilliant concept more than in San Francisco," so they contented themselves with minor revisions when the show needed a complete overhaul. There's no way this show can run more than a few months. Butd don't worry about a dark house, there are several shows (like "Princesses") that are looking for a theatre.

So go ahead, post a message about how I'm not a nice person for having mean thoughts about "Lennon".

^ Meanie! re: Lennon delays opening

I don't think that the show is past redemption. It has an amazingly talented cast, and given anything to work with, I think this could work out on their strength. I suspect it's better that it's recognized that there are problems to be fixed now, rather than after the show would have opened to potentially bad reviews.

re: Lennon delays opening

a LOT of changes happened after SF -- I know, because I saw it 3 times there and once early in NYC previews. They did a LOT of changes, including and EXTREME overhaul of the first act and the adding of about 4 songs and removal of 3. And they greatly improved it.

I think that right now, they're getting pressure from investors about changes and were forced to move it back. I feel like talking to Julia about it and getting her thoughts... It's really unfortunate that they had to move it. And don't talk as if it was delayed before because of problems... Billy Crystal's show extended and "Lennon" HAD to push back it's opening because of that. Not because of problems.

I love this show so much. I say that a lot, but it's one of the best I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. I enjoyed it ALL 4 times and hope to enjoy it more. It's worth seeing, and it WILL open. Definitely.

re: Lennon delays opening

^ Yeah, the AP thing was misleading as the pushing back of the opening before was due to Billy Crystal's show extending, not whatever it is implying happened.

I hope this show is given a chance.

re: Lennon delays opening

I think who finally woke up was Yoko Ono. I've heard that SHE thought it was fine as it was and, therefor, changes were kept to a minimum. It's only after some recent feedback that I think maybe her eyes have been opened up a bit.

Hope these changes work and don't just make things more complicated for the show!

re: Lennon delays opening

Please stop saying SF audiences didn't appreciate the show...I saw it twice in SF with very appreciative audiences and managed to enjoy the show as well.

Damn people....do you want ANYTHING to open on Broadway?

re: Lennon delays opening

Just because someone has the money does not mean they should open on Broadway. Yes, I would rather a theatre sit dark for a while until something worthy of opening comes along. There is this feeling that it is a sin to have a theatre dark when so many people need the work, but look at the Suzanne Summers disaster...it was not worthy of Broadway and just makes it look like the honor of opening on Broadway can be bought. Yea, I know that is really a "negative" thing to say, but it is because I love GOOD theatre. Some of you people would be happy with a season full of White Thunderbirds and Bobi Bolands just so you can say "I saw a BROADWAY SHOW!!!"
PEACE.

I'm sorry you did not enjoy the show (or maybe you didn't even see it), but lots of us that actually liked the show would like to see it have a chance at success on Broadway.

re: Lennon delays opening

No, I have not seen the show myself but I have talked to people I respect and have read quite a bit about it. It doesn't sound like my cup of tea at all. However, my comments were not meant spacifically about LENNON. I understand that some people really love it and that is great. That doesn't mean it is any good. re: Lennon delays opening

re: Lennon delays opening

I've lurked here for a number of years and never posted before. First of all I just want to say, much respect to this awesome site. I think it is great that there is such an amazing site for such great discussions of Broadway. Never have I been motivated before to post but there is a new show on Broadway, a musical that is unlike anything else before and that show is called Lennon.

Now, I was never a fan of the man's music. Showtunes are more my cup of tea, and they always were. At the time of the so-called British Invasion, of which Mr. Lennon's previous group was apparently a part, I was very resistant to the new sounds of the rock and roll that the kids were suddenly crazy about.

So imagine my surprise when I heard of a new kind of musical, the likes of which has never been seen on Broadway before. I write, of course, of Lennon.

I understand that there are many negative people whose fondest wish is to see innocent actors put out of work, their employment cut short as Mr. Lennon's life was by a madman with a gun. To those people, I say, for shame. For there is little difference between the assassination of man, and the murder of a job.

I hear that in spite of the negativity from SOME PEOPLE about this new musical the likes of which Broadway has never seen before, audiences are thrilled and jumping to their feet at the end of the show.

In many instances, I have been told, people are walking directly back to the box office to buy tickets to future performances, because the music is so wonderful and they are fascinated by the development of this work. I applaud those people. For supporting the arts. For supporting the actors. For supporting Mr. Lennon.

Also, if you order tickets using a specific code, you get a free Lennon poster; all you have to do is call 212-947-8844 and mention code LEWC835.
