Les Mis 20th anniversary

Does anyone know if there are any public plans to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Les Miserables in London similar to the tenth anniversary concert? Lesmis.com is never updated and I'm curious.

No. And I heard that the 20th anniversary is going to be relatively quiet. I seem to recall someone saying that the BIG anniversary will be the 21st. But I can in no way confirm that.

And if anyone brings up John Caird's crack he made ten years ago about Wembley Stadium, I'm going to put a barricade in my eye.

He said they would be at the Wembley Stadium for the 20th anniversary... but I don't think it's open anymore (that's what I heard). You can only see this on the video b/c they cut it out of the dvd.

if they did do an anniversery show, who do you think would do it? I mean, I would love Colm Wilkinson to come back and do Jean Valjean (too old maybe). But I heard that they had to convince him to do it, and some of the recordings.

re: Les Mis 20th anniversary

I wasn't thinking of anyone from the tenth anniversary concert... I was thinking of people who have recently been in the shows (within the past ten years). Maybe Randal Keith since he closed in Broadway, maybe Joanna Ampil as Fantine, etc. Not people from the first ten years but from the second ten years. I thought it would be nice.

that actually sounds good. For one thing, the kids in the 10th definatley can't do the 20th. Unless they play different roles.

re: Les Mis 20th anniversary

Is it Wembley Stadium or Wembley Arena? That's a huge difference. For one thing, Wembley Stadium is a huge outdoor soccer stadium that, I believe, is still being constructed. The old one was torn down a couple years ago. Wembley Arena is indoor and much smaller. I think it's Arena as having an outdoor show in a stadium that could hold around 80,000 people is a nightmare for a musical theatre production.

Edit: Just found out that Wembley Stadium will be reopened next year.

wait 5 years, do the biggest Les Mis thing ever, then retire the show for the rest of time.

re: Les Mis 20th anniversary

Last year, when President Chirac of France was in a state visit in London, the Queen hosted a dinner and some celebrations in the evening at Windsor Castle. The special performance was a special concert version of LES MISERABLES. The man whom Cameron Mackintosh had especially requested to sing the songs of Jean Valjean, complete with the costume from the barricades, was the actor who originated the role of Marius almost 20 years ago - Michael Ball!

Maybe he might do that for the 21st anniversary ?

I hear that for the 20th they're doing the school edition of les mis at Queen's theatre. They're auditioned school kids from all over the country, etc....it's all on people, it's all on.

I hope they do something really cool. Like take every fan to France and give tours of the locations where events occured.

re: Les Mis 20th anniversary

A friend of mine in the creative team told me they would do the 21st anniversary at Wembley Arena before closing the show for good.
In my heart, I found the answered dream, and in my soul I found the song, and in my friends I found the magic, the love, the moon up above- they were mine, all mine, all along..!

re: Les Mis 20th anniversary

WHY OH WHY DO THEY HAVE TO CLOSE IT FOR GOOD???? now I can never be Fantine on Broadway!!

I dreamed a dream I'd be Fantine
And then I learned Les Miz was closing
I dreamed that song I'd get to sing
But now the the 20th draws near

-Was that a fart?
-My fault, I fear.

re: Les Mis 20th anniversary

ok, thenardier, you can direct, but only if i can eponine, we'll have to rewrite the role a little bit as she will now be a 20 something over weight male who can't really sing, but we can work it.

re: Les Mis 20th anniversary

Haha Zoneace! Yeah, I would love to play Fantine but as of now I'm way too fat and I think too young (19), although maybe there have been Fantines that young. Plus, I am extremely shy and would not be able to be in front of an audience. And I'm not yet a belter.
