I just saw les Mis on tour, and the cast I saw was great! I saw it when there were a couple under-studies. I thought they did a great job. I had heard that the original Eponine I believe was not too good. What did yall think?
I thought the current tour cast was fabulous as well. Which understudies did you see?
"I had heard that the original Eponine I believe was not too good. "
Are you referring to Frances Ruffelle, the original Eponine on Broadway, or Ma-Anne Dionisio, who's the regular Eponine on tour right now?
I am referring to Ma-Anne Dionisio. I hear she was not too good, so I guess I was lucky to see her understudy, who was wonderful.
Really? I think Ma-Anne has gotten consistently very good reviews (and personally, I think she's amazing in the role, and I'm not an Eponine fan in the least).
Which understudy did you see, Gina Milo or Marnie Nicolella?
Is she the Asian girl? If so, then yes.. down here, she was off or something because she did not get such rave reviews by people that saw it. I am not sure which understudy I saw. She was good though.
Yea, I am not sure why she did not perform well down here. I guess everyone has off performances. I really enjoyed the cast I saw. Fantine had a beautiful voice, I think.
Which other character understudies did you see?
I saw the Les Mis tour here a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good. Randal Keith was amazing! I saw him a while back, but he has since developed into the best valjean I've ever seen!! I wish I had seen Ma-Anne. Her u/s performed and it was the most horrible thing i've ever seen on stage. Her voice was even worse than her voice...which is pretty bad. i wouldn't call what came out her mouth pitches. She almost ruined the show. My friend Sarah and I wanted to go backstage during intermission and kick her ass/put on her costume and take her place for act II. Even if Ma-Anne was sick as a dog i'm sure it would have been better than this girl. It is a testament to how great Les Mis is that I still enjoyed it with her on stage. I pray few who see the tour have to suffer through that.
I saw this tour of Les Mis.... Three times I think. Maybe four. I saw it once in Birmingham, AL and saw what I thought was a half-assed production of it. THe same cast I saw before and they just weren't as good as the last time I saw them.
I saw it just recently in Memphis, and they were fabulous. Very powerful performances by the entire cast. Especially Randall Keith as Val Jean. I personally thought his "Soliloquy" was the best I've ever heard.
Does anyone have a website or a scheldule of where Les Mis is touring? I want to know if they are coming my way, but I can't find anything.
Thanks in advance!
The tour is in good shape. But I think it leaning towards a "well oiled machine" in it's delivery.
Randall is a "very good " Valjean, but not my favorite.
The Javert is emotionless and there's nothing between he and Valjean to speak of. Ma-Anne is a very effective Eponine, but also not especially wonderful. Oh heck, here's the review I did for the site. Judge for yourself, though.

I've lost count of how many Javerts I've been disappointed with. Especially on the tour, they all seem to have the same bland emotionless baritone. Of course we can't expect a Quast or Mann-quality performance everytime but the only live Javert I loved was Richard Kinsey. Randall Keith is a fantastic Valjean, totally blew me away on the tour a few years back. He and Craig Schulman are my faves.

Theatre_Lover, check out www.broadwayacrossamerica.com and click on your city. It doesn't list ALL of them, but most, I believe (it's a Clear Channel affiliation thing, I think.).
lesmis.com has info on some of the cast and the cities that the tour goes to
