re: What songs do you skip?

"I think I skip Santa Fe on both Rent and Newsies. Maybe someone should outlaw making songs about that place. No that its not a perfectly lovely city of course, but the msuical variety just doesn't do it for me."

How can you skip Santa Fe on Newsies? lol, just kidding. I do love that song, but I find myself skipping it as well.

I skip all the same songs i Wicked, and I confess that I play "No Good Deed" twice everytime. I skip most of the love songs on "Scarlet Pimpernel": Believe,

re: ANASTASIA

Dream cast sounds good, except for the fact that the great Julie Andrews can no longer sing. A crime it is.

Love the story of Anastasia, though I've never seen this version. I do love the Ingrid Bergmen and Yul Brenner version. Not a musical though.

Anywho, I think it would be a great musical.

And the list of Broadway singers in Disney movies was very impressive. I had no idea there were so many.

re: Into the Woods

just click on the bwayworld radio link under "Features" to listen to it.

I love Ben Wright -- bad breathing at all. It almost makes me like him better, for some odd reason. :)

re: Willy Wonka

It's too bad that the new movie isn't going to be a musical -- tha's my favorite part of the whole show! I think it would be a great on stage. And I think Johnny Depp is going to be a GREAT Willy Wonka.

Oh, and when the original was being made, it was going to be Charly and the Chocolate Factory but they changed it because Charly is slang for a slave trader.

re: Phantom of the Opera vs. Cats

I think Phantom is a better show than Cats, so it should outrun it, IMHO. However, the better musicals aren't always the long running ones. As for the film helping the musical, I guess it probably will, like J. said -- raises awareness.
re: CATS: I'm finally joining the rest of the theatre-going world

I like Cats, I guess. Honestly, there are more songs that I dislike than I like. The plot is kinda weak, and there's not a lot of character developement, but than again, I am a sucker for character development.

I love MaCavity, too. I like what's-her-name, Bumbulrinia or whatever. She's so cool, even though I know nothing about her.

re: Into the Woods

I love the original "Into the Woods" -- Bernanette Peters is freaking awesome! And Ben Wright has a great voice -- what ever happened to him? I don't get the big appeal of the Baker's Wife as a character, but Joanna does have a very nice voice, and perfect timing. But Peters! She is sooo amazing. I love her facial expressions in "Last Midnight". I don't see how Williams could come close to her. But I do have to admit I've never listened to it.
best Phantom!!

Speaking of Christine, I HATE Sarah Brightmen -- she drives me nuts! Love Rebecca Caine, though. Hee hee, I just love the Canadian recording.
re: for the actors here

Makes me mad I chickened out at the Bat Boy auditions in Albany. ::sigh::
re: Rent?

Okay people, I'll try it. I shall get tickets as soon as they go on sell (provided I can afford them, but too soon to worry about that).

Thanks for your help, y'all.

Oh, and I do want to say that I think that schools would be allowed to do rent -- at least in my part of the country. Oregon schools are very librial (good or bad, it has yet to be seen). But I think colleges could pull it off a lot lot better.

However the shows turn out, they will always be a living tribute to

re: for the actors here

I'm new here, so I'll just answer here.

I would have to say Belle from Beauty and the Beast, or maybe Lucy in Jekyl and Hyde, or Margurite in Scarlett Pimpernel. So hard to choose!

re: Rent?

CATS, if you're tired of explaining RENT to people, why bother to reply? Holy smoke people, it was an honest question! I figured this was the place to ask, and I was right. I'm NOT bashing it! I was just trying to understand it better. Give a girl a break.

I've read the stuff about Jonathan Larson -- I think he is AMAZING. I write plays -- I know the fight you have to go through,in a way. (not the same thing exactly, duh.)I am in awe of him -- that's why I asked, that's why I need to unde

re: Jane Eyre?

I don't think SG and JE are that much alike... I heard them at the same time, and I can't say that I found them similar... both really good though. I love Anthony Warlow and Phillip Quast's "Lily's Eyes" from the Australian recording! That is so breath taking.
re: 'Miss Saigon' tour!!!

I love that scene when the gate goes up, and the strobes flash in people's eyes, and next thing you know, you're on the other side of the fence, and then back again! It was so awesome.

As for the phone... no clue. Maybe he was calling the club where she worked?

re: Rent?

lol -- that might be it, but that was too confusing, lol. jk
re: Rent?

Okay, so the plot is a bunch of people who can't pay the rent doing what, exactly? Is it just a bunch of random people and the stuff that conects them? What's the the theme? I just don't see any plot line... that's why I don't understand it.

So please, don't spare me: what is the plot?

re: Best Phantom

I know a lot of people who think that about Colm as Phantom. I just love it when he says "Make your choice" -- sends chills up and down my spine!
re: If you could see one person onstage....

Grant Norman as Beast in "Beauty and the Beast" (again)

Colm Wilkenson as Phantom in "Phantom of the Opeara"

Colleen Sexton as Lucy in "Jekyll and Hyde" (she was good, after all -- although the rest of the recording left much to be desired)

Ruthie Henshaw (sp?) as Fantine in "Les Mis"

Best Phantom

I have never seen the real thing (my best friend "put it on" in her basement last summer, which was good for a basement run Profile for Theatre_Lover | BroadwayWorld Message Board and I was wondering who everyone thought the best Phantom was, recorded or not. I personally hate Micheal Crawford -- he's voice drives me nuts! I love love love Colm Wilkenson's version, and Anthony Warlow is pretty awesome too, although Colm is totally my fav! No one can sing like him.

I've heard Brad Little was excellent -- be

re: 'Miss Saigon' tour!!!

He was in it when I saw it about a mouth ago, so I'd say, yes, he's still there.

Forgot to mention that I met one of the stars: Jonathan Wade. He was signing autographs -- signed my program twice! Of course, he is five... he played Tam. Very cute. Profile for Theatre_Lover | BroadwayWorld Message Board
