Les Mis - teaser trailer for the Cannes Film Festival.

That teaser has been making its way around the 'net since Friday, I don't think it was meant to be released. It might be the one from CinemaCon. And I'm not even sure it's the whole thing, I think some of the beginning is missing.

If this is intended for Cannes ( which opens in mid-May), have they added the real orchestrations to the teaser? According to Claude Michel Schonberg, the vocals are to be sung live with an ear monitor to feed the piano guide...and orchestrations will be added later ( presumably during post).

Any info about any Cannes screening will be much appreciated.

This excerpt from a fairly recent interview with composer Claude Michel Schonberg --

http://www.edgedallas.com/index.php?ch=entertainment&sc=music&sc3=&id=131233

>What works on the stage doesn’t always work in the movies and so we’ve become more and more involved in reworking bits of the script and score. We also are trying to achieve something never done before. All the actors will be recorded singing live on the set with just a piano. They will sing the show live and afterwards the orchestration will be added. It’s a very complicated process.<<<

If you noticed in one of the first sneak videos, with Jackman as Valjean singing in a churchyard, he is obviously wearing an ear monitor.

Also, in this tweet from Russell Crowe when he filmed STARS and sang it 23 times, he mentions that he had an ear monitor for 7 hours --

Interesting concept. I'm wondering what process they will use to take out any ambient noises that will obviously be captured during filming. I'm thinking the actor's vocals are also being recorded live on a seperate track while filming and then over dubbed in during the final mixing/editing process.

Isn't that the same thing they did with the Bette Midler "Gypsy" ? I thought she was supposed to have sung live on the set, with the orchestra added later.
The meat is always leaner on somebody else's dinner plate!

Yeah, this is just the CinemaCon bootleg footage with the image flipped. And the entire front part of the trailer is missing, which included Valjean as a convict and Fantine getting her hair cut.

I doubt there will be a public screening in Cannes. Universal will probably have footage to show investors only. I'm out in Cannes for the second week of the festival, so if I find out more i'll report back.

Thanks.

I've been once to Cannes during festival week - at a fairly large cafe at the Croisette, there were so many serious looking conversations happening between people who looked like filmmakers and potential investors. I never saw one movie star - except for one guy (who looked like one) sitting by himself in one of the inner room tables. LOL - it is not all glamour, but more of business deals happening!

It sure is crazy. I'd advice people, if you dont have a pass do not go to Cannes during the festival, as you need it to see any films and most of the areas are restricted. There are some great films this year though.
