Hugh Jackman to hold 12-performance concert series at Radio City Music Hall

Oct 9, 2024 — 12:05:02 PM

There could be some similarities as it focuses on an aging RobinHood -- but the woman played by Jodie Comer is not Maid Marian. I had a chance to read the first draft of the screenplay and the movies is part action - his fierce last battles...and part drama- the healing needed after that. This is where he meets the mysterious healer played by Jodie Comer -- and presumably this is where the drama of the unusual relationship unfolds. This is likely why 2 strong actors like Jackman & Comer ( both...

Hugh Jackman to hold 12-performance concert series at Radio City Music Hall

Oct 9, 2024 — 10:27:42 AM

He was on a 90-show world tour in 2019 ( The Man The Music The Show) across Europe/USA/Australia/NewZealand/Mexico&One city in Canada. If I recall right it will be the same producer for this forthcoming show. Also, reports say he sold out 6 shows at the O2 in London/ 3 shows at MSGarden & 2 shows at Hollywood Bowl. Can't recall the total number of tickets sold -- but not too far off from about a million tickets? It was a mix of many reprises from his stage shows & movie musicals...plus some s...

I'd bet Sutton Foster is one of them."He's filming a new movie with Jodie Comer called The Death of Robin Hood starting Febr...

Broadway adaptation of Greatest Showman film musical

Aug 13, 2024 — 12:48:26 AM

Here's an interesting link to musical theatre --Hugh Jackman was discovered by the producer of the 1st XMen movie (and subsequent movies) LaurenShulerDonner in the musical revival of Oklahoma! in London...and suggested him as replacement to the injured Dougray Scott ( who was cast as the first Wolverine). Guess who helped HJ during his visit to the Canadian studio for his audition - it was Donner's assistant named Kevin Feige. Feige is of course now the president of Marvel Studios.

Broadway adaptation of Greatest Showman film musical

There is word on social media from fanboys that it seems Hugh Jackman has agreed to do more Wolverine movies ( presumably with Ryan R, with whom he has formed a professional alliance with director Shawn Levy) beyond Avengers. To be honest, I think what might have interested him is the possiblity that Disney could be his new "home studio" ( just as Fox was) - and he could be in musicals, adventure stories ( Levy is developing another StarWars movie) or join up with Harrison Ford, even dramatic...

Broadway adaptation of Greatest Showman film musical

They'll need a strong actor, with singing and dancing talent, if they are going to base it on the movie. PT Barnum was not very likable and was too obsessed with his ambitions. It is doubtful that HughJackman will be involved. This was his passion project after Oscars producer Larry Mark suggested a Barnum musical to him when HJ was rehearsing his 2009 Oscars duties. Announced the project in 2009 but it was only released in 2017. If the timetable is 2026, HJ will likely be filming his Wolveri...

How much does a minimal set affect your ability to follow along with a show's storyline?

Feb 17, 2024 — 4:27:48 AM

It is easier for dramatic plays than maybe it would be for musicals. Probably also depends on how close one is to the stage. On the ground floor in seats surrounding the square stage in the center I saw Proof ( with Gwyneth Paltrow) at the Donmar Warehouse. I could follow the entire play very well. I can't remember the other cast members now but it was an absorbing play & well acted.I also saw A Steady Rain with Hugh Jackman & Daniel Craig more than once. I think it was at the Schonfeld and I ...

Musical or Play for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman

Feb 12, 2024 — 11:38:55 PM

Hugh & Ryan have tremendous chemistry which will likely translate very well on stage. Hugh has the range for any genre while Ryan can handle comedy, action & maybe drama as well. Hugh has committed to a long run in the past (TheMusicMan) but I am not sure that Ryan would want to do that, given his film commitments & business ventures.Maybe the most practical thing is for them is to do a new or a remake of a musical comedy movie. Maybe something like Singin' In The Rain ( Hugh in the Kelly rol...

Denzel Washington to return to Broadway in OTHELLO?

Feb 1, 2024 — 10:27:30 AM

jagman106 said: "Nothing about this rumor excites me, especially having seen Denzel in Julius Caesar about 20 years ago."I found his portrayal in Julius Caesar also very disappointing. He did not have the elegance of language that classical actors impress with. The mature woman seated next to me, who is a regular theatregoer ( for straight plays) expressed her disappointment in even stronger language.

Aaron Tveit, Sutton Foster will next star in ‘Sweeney Todd’

BJR said: "I can't imagine Hugh wasn't one of the 17 names they asked first."Interestingly, a few years back when Hugh & Patrick Stewart were promoting their movie LOGAN, they talked about dream theatre projects. Hugh said he would want to do SWEENEY TODD and Patrick said he would like to be Judge Turpin ( but he would only do it for a few shows a week). If Hugh did do Sweeney, I would like to see Allison Janney as Mrs. Lovett ( I think she did theatre before although I am not sure if she cou...

Star casting or breakout star?

Oct 23, 2023 — 3:24:23 PM

jagman1062 said: "Sutton Ross said: "Sure, it's exciting to be in the same room as a celebrity you admire but they have to be talented and work in the part, or else it's a giant waste of my time and money. And break out stars will always be exciting. Julie was the story in the Spring of 2022 which was thrilling and crazy all at once."I completely agree with Sutton. If a star is giving a high-quality performance, then I certainly am happy to see them in the show. Unfortunately, there have been...

Why is it hard for other Sweeneys and Lovetts to win acting Tonys now?

And though it's Hearn not Cariou on that video recording, he may too be indelibly marked in their minds in a way that makes it more difficult to embrace either radically different interpretations or those which mimic his."I agree with you.It is an issue for those who play roles in revivals whose original character portra...

Why is it hard for other Sweeneys and Lovetts to win acting Tonys now?

Jun 13, 2023 — 12:17:38 AM

Some people are unaware or forget that Hugh Jackman came from the theatre before he became a Hollywood film star. He stole the show as Gaston in Beauty&theBeast & played JoeGillis in Sunset Blvd. It was Trevor Nunn ( director of the Royal National Theatre &the Royal Shakespeare Company; also of acclaimed plays Les Miserables/SunsetBlvd/NicholasNickleby) who cast him in SunsetBlvd and brought him to the London revival of Oklahoma!. Before London, Hugh also won an acting award for his portrayal...

Why is it hard for other Sweeneys and Lovetts to win acting Tonys now?

Listener said: "Honestly, I'm relieved Groban (and Hugh before him) didn't win because it proves that Bway hasn't succumbed to the idea that a star deigning to appear on the boards is reason enough to give them a Tony. Let their performance be perfect and the casting be right regardless of their fame, and then give them a Tony."Jackman has the theatre background (a graduate of dramatic theatre & professionally a former Olivier nominee and former Tony winner) who just happens to be a big film ...
