Les Miserables 25th Anniversary UK Tour - New Cast Recording

Again, I don't understand why they cut anything. There's plenty of room left over. The cuts within the show already, obviously weren't going to be restored for the recording, but to make additional cuts when it would have all fit just fine doesn't make any sense to me. Aside from that though, it's still a great recording and a worthy addition to any collection.

Les Miserables 25th Anniversary UK Tour - New Cast Recording

I cant believe I have just listened to a recording of Les Miserables'!!!
The first time in 15 years or more! I cant even remember the last time I saw a performance?
I will say, however, I did enjoy this new recording. It has a good pace and some great voices.
I am impressed with Ggggareth Gates and a number of others.

I really like Gareth. I can understand the general complaint amongst the purists that his voice isn't "legit" enough, whatever that means, but I like him. He sounds young -- like how Marius should sound. Marius is a young man after all, and it's refreshing to hear someone more age appropriate. Not that Michael Ball wasn't great, but he was too old fifteen years ago for the tenth anniversary.

CATSNYrevival, because Michael Ball's voice is exactly that.

CONAries, brilliant!

DaisyDillamond, it's £20.

Colle, of course, it will go on wider release soon. According to Jon Robyns' Twitter, 23rd August. Production runs until August 7th at the Bristol Hippodrome.

Just as a random point. The show uses big wooden flats, that act in a gatefold fashion and at some points, cover the whole of the proscenium (like the set in the 50th anniversary tour of West Side Story). These fitted perfectly in the Wales Millenium Centre where the tour opened, but now in theatres with smaller stages than the WMC (the Bristol Hippodrome, and most other theates in the Country...) they have removed one flat from each side, halving the width of it, to make it fit. They have made up for the lost space by using the downstage tabs to cover it.

Thought you might want to know...

I believe it's £20.

The album is supposed to be made available in stores and on-line at some point, but the last update was to say that it would be available "shorty" after it went on sale in Bristol. Some people are saying it will be released on the 23rd of August, but I haven't seen that officially confirmed.

This is a very strong cast, especially vocally, but I am sure Cammack had the CD in mind prior to casting. There have been complaints that Rosalind James is too soulful or r'n'b, but I love it now I'm used to it. I think it suits Eponine's "street" nature more than a strict classical style.

I really like Gareth Gates too, and IMO he captures the spirit of Marius perfectly, but I love the tone of his voice which has a great mixture of purity and warmth.

Everyone raves about John Owen-Jones and Earl Carpenter, and rightly so. It's such a joy to see them sparring on stage together.

Les Miserables 25th Anniversary UK Tour - New Cast Recording

I was lucky enough to see the excellent Les Miserable today at The Barbican, more about that tomorrow.

The OLCR and The 10th anniversary concert cd's had cuts, when I buy my music I want evey syllable and breathe included, cannot bear it when a cast recording has been butchered.

So the question is am I going to buy this new recording? Of course I am, but hope not to be dissapointed, as what I witnessed on stage this afternoon was very special.

Les Miserables 25th Anniversary UK Tour - New Cast Recording

I saw this yesterday at The Barbican yesterday afternoon, I have seen this once this year at The Queens theatre, this is one of my favourite musicals of all time, so not really up for seeing a inferior touring production, but give it a go anyway. I have not been to The Barbican Theatre before also.

Did I say "inferior", that was very remiss from me, as this production, casting, staging and lighting is fantastic and Beautiful in every conceivable way. I am quite a stolid person, but I was even moved to tears a couple of times, hey isn't theatre a powerful medium that interacts with the audience on a intimate level, aint that what makes theatre so special?

As I said I have never been to 'The Barbican' before, what a love theatre, very ugly on the outside, but what matters is what happens on stage. This venue misses out on productions, I guess you could stage many of a West End shows here, but guess the location is a let down.

The English stiff upper lip stops the audience giving a standing ovation, Like at the Queen's theatre earlier this, at the end the audience just rose to the feet, to pay appreciation to Victor Hugo's masterpiece and a great production.

Tomorrow afternoon I am going to see Oliver, very fitting to see back to back with 'Les Miserable', where Victor Hugo had a lot in common with Charles Dickens, both men wrote in hope of social reform, Victor Hugo in Les Miserables wanted to point out living conditions to the Parisian Bourgeois, where Dickens wanted to do similar with Victorian Gentry, so very apt to see both productions back to back. Then in the evening I am going to see 'Aspects of Love' which at nothing to do with social reform, but everyone wanting a bunk up with everyone else.
