I had just said Ayers would be in the ensamble of south Pacific.
Anywho,
I heard that Owens was thinking about returning to Les Miserables in London after Drew leaves. It does make sense in my mind. Only because he has been there for a good long time and is good in the role and it means that they wouldn't have to have an audition or try to find someone else to replace Drew.
That being said, I did find it odd that they offered him a six month stint then announcing that they were going to close in January. It made sense to me that they weren't sure how long the show would be opened until and they weren't screwing him over by saying he was going to be there for six months and then only booking him for three.
Someone was asking him what it was he planned to do after the show. He said that he wanted to relax in NYC and then go back over to London to work. That gave me the impression that he has some time that he can use in NYC and he is going to make the best of it before headding back home. I am sure that he has about three months here of down time and I wouldn't be suprised if he used it as a vacation period.

Posted: 1/9/08 at 12:55pmThe man is amazing! Let me risk abuse and say he is better than Colm Wilkerson. He's a hottie too. I wish I could have gotten up to New York to see him. I saw him in London this summer and fell in love. When I heard he was coming to NYC I SOOOOOO wanted to see him again. But, I'm down here in Alabama with no money!

I don't know who Colm Wilkerson is. But, he is up there with Colm Wilkinson.
I do think he might even be better.
Just because someone created a role doesn't mean that when it comes to it they are the be all and the end all.
There can end up being people out there that are better then you are.

I have seen and heard Colm's performance as Valjean many times. I think John plays it much more realistically and has a better voice. I obviously have never seen Colm Wilkinson play Valjean live, and so much of how good a performer is can only be determined by seeing him live.
Anyway, does anybody know when Drew leaves the London cast?

Posted: 1/9/08 at 3:38pmI have seen both live, and it would be hard to compare them fairly, since I saw Wilkinson completely fired up upon his return to the role in San Francisco before the China engagement, while I saw JOJ at an average matinee in London. :)

Yea, I guess Colm originated the role so it's too hard to compare.
If anyone is going to Broadway any time soon, can you check and see if the Les Mis stuff is gone already?

Posted: 1/9/08 at 4:38pmI'm curious as to how long it takes to fully complete a load-out. And I'm not obsessed, just repeating the question because nobody has acknowledged it.

It shouldn't take long...it was the tour set with some slight modifications. I would imagine they are finished by now, since Cat on a Hot Tin Roof begins previews Feb. 12.
