That's not a closing date, that's when they're selling tickets until I believe. It's open ended.
I heard from a good source it would run through next summer.
I thought John Owen-Jones had at least a six-month contract as Valjean, which means it's running until April at the earliest.
January 6 is a closing date. The show is presently not open ended. [bially -- scores a bagel]
January 6 is a closing date. It may be extended and run through next summer. [Lord -- This I swear by the stars]
John Owen-Jones may have at most a six-month contract. [C'mon Marianne -- Are you mixed up with The Jersey Boys?]
January 6, 2008 is presently set as the closing date.

They never have offically announced the show as an open ended run. They just keep changing the closng date and say that that they will run until the show stops selling tikets. However, due to the fact that the show has kept selling tickets they keep changing the closing date.
I do think that this show is going to run for a while and that Equus is going to broadway. But, I do have a hunch that they are going to change the date that they are going to bring it to broadway. I do think that if the show does nnot go to broadway it will not go to the broadhurst. cam Mac has been doing great business all thorough the 80's with the original Les Miserables Phantom and Cats. If he wants to keep Les Miserables open at the Broadhurst then they will find a way to keep it open.

I saw it back in September, and i am by no means a Les Mis expert, but i did like it, the only thing that stood out that i hated was the opening few bars(overture thingy since its so short), they were totally hollow and lacked all conviction that they usually have.
I thought the lighting was beautiful and yes, very saturated. I also thought it fit into the theatre quite nicely and loved the use of the boxes.
But looking at the marquis outside, one can easily see that it was not intended for a limited run, I doubt they would have spent so mucn on the marquis if it were just for 6 months, those things arent cheap and if you really look at it, the Broadhurst has up more adds than most other shows, and the verticals arent even say a cheaper vinyl banner but a solid sign, not to mention the large photo of Enjorlas that is cut to fit into the shape over the door. those things arent cheap.

Posted: 10/16/07 at 12:08pmthe look of the marquee pisses me off though....I love the new logo for this revival that is Sepia-toned...but then they have other logo's on the theater that are the traditional red-white-and blue. PICK ONE! they look bad all thrown together.

Not to mention the Giant Enjolras Who Ate New York (whose rear end is ambiguous, I guess, except they ID'd him in an old brochure) is neither Aaron Lazar nor Max von Essen nor even from an American production.

Posted: 10/16/07 at 4:58pmwhile i admit i am not a Les Mis fan, i could think of worse things that have run longer on Broadway. this being an open-ended run isn't that unsettling.

I just received a group sales flyer in the mail yesterday that allows tickets to be booked through next summer. With good sales I do not think it will be closing too soon.

Telecharge is selling regular tickets only through January 6, 2008. But they will take group sales orders through July 6, 2008 (yes, a summer Sunday). They won't fulfill the orders or charge your account until/unless it's extended.
p.s. The box office, tonight, would not sell tickets for February dates and confirmed the January 6th date. But they "anticipate" an extension announcement within two weeks.

The Lion King is only booking through April 13, but that doesn't mean it's closing in the spring.
The limit to the end of the current booking period does not signify a closing date. January 6 is just the end of the booking period.
And, not that it necessarily means anything, but it's listed on Playbill as "Open-ended".

Posted: 10/17/07 at 12:22amLes Mis will close in time for Equus to play the Broadhurst with an early June opening. This has been confirmed by serveral sources, unless of coarse Equus finds a vacant theatre they like better.

As has already been said, January 6th is NOT the closing date. John Owen-Jones has a six month contract and since Jenny Galloway is returning, I'd assume that she also has a six month contract. Now just because people have contracts doesn't mean that a show will stay open for that long, however with sales they way they are (and will continue to be) it's a very safe bet that it won't go anywhere.
Do you think if Equus does show interest in the Broadhurst that instead of closing Cam Mac will just move the show to another theater? He's making a lot of money on this and with the new cast changes coming into effect by the end of the month, there will be more people who will probably want to catch it. I doubt that he will close it if it's still making him money.
Perhaps he'll downsize again, kick out Spelling Bee, and put it into Circle in the Square! haha
