Love it !!! So pumped for this show !

There is actually a pretty nifty piece of word play in this song. It occurs when Dracula raises Lucy from the grave and he sings about giving her "life after life". Later, in the song, when she is resurrected, they sing together about their future victims and how they will take "life after life". It's not Sondheim, of course, but it's rather clever.
Hmmm, am I the only one not that excited about a musical version of Dracula? It just screams CHEESY to me. Even the straight-play versions make me cringe.
I hope I'm proven wrong, though.
I certainly hope that's not their best shot.
It still doesn't work for me...
I didn't like at all this song...
And the show looks worst than Jekyll...
I am at least looking forward to the technical elements of the show...especially Heidi Ettinger's sets...it's about time she returned to Broadway. She is also doing the sets for Lippa's out of town run of Little Princess.
I didn't mind the song, but i hope that wasn't the best one.

The show is called Jekyll and Hyde after all. Oh wait, sorry they changed the title again.
haha. that's a good one. cheesy is not the word that comes to mind when I think of Dracula the musical. I think there areplenty of other shows that are more cheesy. Weren't we talking about CATS earlier?
The premise of the show is good, but that song sounds TOO interchangable with J&H.
I think a lot of poeple will be talking about how close Dracula is to Jekyll. If you have one of the demo cds, serveral bars from "The Glory" are in a Dracula song. I can remember which one though.
Oh, sorry. "The Glory" as in the song from "The Civil War."
from what i can remember from la jolla, there are quite a few instances in the score that resemble or duplicate parts of J&H and Pimpernel. not full melodies, but short snippets and instumentals. my assessment of the score after the show was that it aspires to be J&H but never achieves the same melodic catchiness. musical theatre doesn't have to be catchy or hummable, but IMHO a pop musical score should be fun and memorable or why see it?

This is the same opinion I'm making of DRACULA. It has the same power and darkness of JEKYLL & HYDE but is much less melodic.
As I reported elsewhere, the Broadway version has six songs not in the La Jolla version, so it's quite revised from its earlier incarnation.
I love this song. It's on repeat now all day...
six new songs. that's good, it gives me some hope. the show in La Jolla had some good potential. if they overhaul it enough in the right areas, it could turn out to be quite good. do you know how many songs they cut from La Jolla? i lost my program.

magruder says "One More Lonely Night", with new lyrics is now "Over Whitby Bay". I'm not sure if the reprise still takes place before "The Wedding Song" though. Or if it's "Over Whitby Bay" (reprise) or what I have no clue. "First Taste" has been replaced with "Forever Young". "Modern World" (for the ensemble), "A Perfect Life" for Mina, and "Life After Life" for Dracula and Lucy, (which ends Act One) have been added to the first act. "Nosferatu" has been trimmed and "Van Helsing's Proposal" cut. "Before the Summer Ends" is now "Jonathan's Promise" (But he's not sure of the title). In Act Two, "If I Had Wings" has been added for Mina, "The Longer I Live" for Dracula, and "Please Don't Make Me Love You" for Dracula and Mina. Updated On: 7/4/04 at 07:55 PM

I love Tom Hewitt in this song, and I can't wait to see him in this role.
Yeah, there are definitley a few chords of "The Glory" in this song....I have the Civil War score right in front of me, LOL! Anyways, it's a good song! I think Wildhorn may be trying to pull some of the best elements from each of his shows and use them in Dracula. Let's all try to give this production a chance, there is NO way that you can judge the quality of the show just by hearing one song! I'm excited to see it in August!
See Ya!
