Posted: 12/24/06 at 1:33amI've heard Andrea McArdle isn't in this program... Is it true?

Yes, Andrea McArdle is not in the movie. She addressed this issue at a talk she gave at my shcool a few months ago. She said the filmmakers were "coming from a negative place" and that since her Annie experience was very positive, she didn't want to be involved.
She also said that after she declined, the filmmakers told Sarah Jessica Parker that she (McArdle) had in fact agreed to be a part of it in order to get Parker involved. McArdle and Parker met up a few months later and the truth came out and apparently Ms. Parker was not happy about being lied to, but it was too late to have her stuff removed from the film.
Take that as you will.

Thanks for clearing that up about the whole McArdle debacle.
Andrea spoke quite extensively about her ANNIE days on Seth Rudetsky's CHATTERBOX show about a year ago, and her memories were realistic and positive. I myself was around 12 years old when ANNIE opened on Broadway, so her recollections of a mid-70's Manhattan were quite vivid and nostalgic, as seen from a child's perspective.
I fully validate her decision of not wanting to be part of Julie Steven's documentary as it's tone is quite negative and 'dark', though it does have it's nostalgic appreciation factor. It's very realistic in it's showing of the reality of what happens to child actors, which Andrea can't really relate to since she did continue working after her run in ANNIE.
Too late for Sarah Jessica Parker to balk, and thanks to her inclusion she gives some balance to the documentary in the fact that not ALL of the little girls in ANNIE faded into obscurity after their stint in the show.

Posted: 12/24/06 at 12:29pmI have been very interested in seeing this documentary for a while, and I don't get Showtime. This depresses me. Hopefully it will be more accessible in the future.

Yes, Julie has made many enemies during this. She is very manipulative. The reason why SJP agreed to participate in the Documentary was becasue she was told that the other four original annies were participating in the film. Andrea and Alyson kirk wanted nothing to do with the documentary and Julie knew this from the beginning.

Posted: 12/25/06 at 7:44pmI watched it again from the beginning. Yesteday I only saw it from midway on and I was in shock of how bad they made it sound but, there are 2 sides. While it must have been horrible for these little girls to go back into the real world not understanding what the hell is going on, why they aren't stars anymore, why it never happened to them again..it's a little odd that some of these ladies are still living in the past and get together like a crafts party and talk annie lol.. and that they still do annie song and dances. It's like they can't let go and grow apart from it. I did ANNIE in a community theatre and couldnt wait till the last show lol.

How many OBC members were in the documentary?
I can't believe they lied to SJP!

I just saw it. What a bunch of winers. All of them. "Boo hoo.. I grew up and had to go back to the real world.. boo hoo. " they all deserve one hard bitch slap.
I think a more interesting documentary would have been on the mothers.

Ms. McArdle has had steady work through the years. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until she gets the role of Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia!

Well, she originated the role of Annie so her experiences are going to be totally different. I mean, come on, she met the friggin' President!

Posted: 12/26/06 at 11:04pmmy favorite was the soap actress who riffed out a really bad "tomorrow" with her eyes closed sobbing. She was also on a baby story.

Posted: 12/26/06 at 11:04pmI caught this documentary tonight. Quite disturbing, but not surprising. Clearly, the parents needed a few parenting classes before they were allowed to procreate! The way backstage part was the most disturbing. I wouldn't expect anything different backstage in a broadway theatre, and I have a real problem with the way they discussed the activities of the cast members before and after the show. In my opinion, it was edited with an agenda. I am glad that SJP took part in the film because it WAS a stepping stone for some actresses. Is this really any different than the many stories of child tv stars?
