There was a "Live at the Lincoln Center" performance of Light in the Piazza last year. I missed it, but I was really hoping there would be a DVD I could buy. I keep looking for it on the pbs website but there's no mention of it. Does anyone know if they will ever put out a DVD?
oh, i wish they would. i tried taping it but my vcr screwed up.

Although this has already been discussed eight thousand times on this site, union and contractual limitations ensure that there will NEVER be a commercial DVD or video release of this - nor is it permitted to be rerun again on PBS or elsewhere.
Alas.

Sorry - I'm new to the site. didn't mean to bring up dead news.

No need to be sorry...it's a fair question and one which continues to be frequently asked here and elsewhere - so it isn't dead news at all.
The confusion comes from those Lincoln Center shows (some of the Great Performances and other telecasts) which are permitted to be released on DVD and rerun in subsequent years vs. those in the Live from Lincoln Center series which are not.
It's really ashame because it would be a terrific DVD and would greatly honor the show in the future for all those who didn't see it.

However...the original fil that the Musical is based on with Olivia DeHaviland is due to be released on DVD later this year!
TCM (Turner Classic Movies) airs the widescreen print of the film LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA quite frequently.
Until the DVD is released, check the TCM listings for air dates.
I have a copy of the Live from Lincoln Center broadcast on DVD, and I have a DVD burner. If anyone would like a copy, please PM me.
This is from the Live at Lincoln Center website FAQ:
>1. Can I purchase videos of LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER programs?
>LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER programs are not available for purchase. Our programs >are cleared for broadcast only, and our agreements with artists, guilds, and unions >prohibit us from making them available in any other form.
Does that mean it's illegal for me to make copies? If so, never mind.
Yes...it is illegal to reproduce and distribute copies of the broadcast.
Bad, bad girl.
What did you say Elphaba
Oh forget it
I apologize for bringing it up.

Thanks, professor. That is really interesting, and now I know. It really would be great to distribute such a wonderful performance so more people can enjoy it.
