Posted: 8/25/10 at 11:17amI'm sorry if I missed something, but where did the rumors of Lisa taking over in Mamma Mia come from? Is there a source stating she actually will be?

She starts in October.
Declined to be the new Diana standby (which she was offered) in order to take the role of Donna.

Lisa is so fabulous, I wish she'd get her chance outside of Standby & Replacement in longstanding musical roles...
She was a revelation in the otherwise abysmal "Woman In White" and deserves her opportunity to shine!

Love Lisa!
She would be a phenomenal Diana, but I agree she deserves to not be a stand-by... Lisa just may be the thing that gets me back to Mamma Mia.

It's a little odd to hear she is going in as Donna as she is in that transitive period of her career where she very well could still play the daughter aesthetically speaking.
I mean, she played Elphaba barely two years ago who starts off at University age...

So? Ana Gasteyer played her too & she was 39.
As long as Gina Ferrall & Judy McLane stay I'm happy.

Posted: 8/25/10 at 3:45pmI'm stating that as a supporting factor to her being able to pull off young just as well, if not better, than older.

Posted: 8/25/10 at 3:56pmExcept she's 40 & I would bet rather play the lead as opposed to supporting.

Ridiculous. Brescia looks (and is) too old to play Sophie.

Ya and, taking nothing away from her very fine performance as Elphaba, Brescia looked like she could have been Annaleigh Ashford's mother. Definitely not one of the more youthful-looking Elphabas.

Posted: 8/26/10 at 9:25pmShe definitely looks too old for Sophie. She looked too old for Elphaba two years ago, though everything else about her performance was perfection. I really hope she gets to play Diana someday. I've been wanting to see her in the role since I first saw the show.

I returned on Saturday and I was NOT let down. Lisa is perfection in the role. VERY strong vocals, proving Act 2 really belongs to Donna. Not to mention, she also makes the silver spandex costume hot.
Props out to Clarke Thorell as well. I loved his Harry the most of the 3 dads. Him and Lisa sound so good during "Our Last Summer." Their vocals mix so well I didn't want the song to end!
Much stronger cast than last year... I was very pleased!

I know this comment is months old, but after seeing the show I have to say that this is absolutely NOT true. Lisa Brescia is perfect as Donna. Aesthetically speaking, I cannot see her as Sophie AT ALL.
Just because she played Elphaba (who was only university-age during the first act) doesn't mean she is eligible to play any younger role. Elphaba is a much different role than Sophie and has been played by a wide range of differently aged people. I wouldn't say having an Elphaba in her high 30s is that unusual. The role doesn't touch upon that many youthful aspects as does the role of Sophie, even though Elphaba starts off at a university.
Sorry if I am not making any sense, but it is 4:30 am.

Posted: 11/18/10 at 11:20amI saw Lisa recently as Donna and she was wonderful. WHO is the actor playing Sam? The worst I have ever seen on Broadway. EVER.
#21Lisa Brescia Mamma Mia
Posted: 11/18/10 at 3:15pmI believe Sam was John Dossett. And yes, I agree he was by far the weakest of the leads. My parents actually preferred Pierce Brosnan's voice to his.
