This is the video I got from Tokyo DisneySea's official website. It shows a short preview of the Little Mermaid show that they are currently showing.

Do you think Ariel will actually fly like that in the Little Mermaid show that's being planned right now?

Posted: 1/2/06 at 3:12amprbly not i would assume, it looks really tacky....they probably would want it to look a little more realistic. It really depends on the creative team and I dont think it'll look anything like it did in that video Updated On: 1/2/06 at 03:12 AM

Posted: 1/2/06 at 3:16amMan, Broadway could TOTALLY do this AND should!!! I know it's always been in the works, but it I hope it happens!

Posted: 1/2/06 at 3:18ammikey it is planned for Broadway and thats what i believed that question was aimed at, if it was going to be done like that, i hope it looks a little better

Posted: 1/2/06 at 3:24amI dont think it looks tacky at all, Theres only so much you can do on stage

Posted: 1/2/06 at 3:26ampaul rubin is the man who usually does all the flying techniques, i'm just saying that the mermaid flying could be done without the noticeable strings in the same exact manner, i cant wait to see the flying effects they do with this

I don't mind this approach at all, but I doubt it will be anything like this because the creative team is completely different. Director Francesca Zambello and one of my favourite designers, George Tyspin, are bound to come up with something interesting though.
Thanks for the link, that was quite interesting to see. Imagine the casting of Ariel if they did that on Broadway. She would have to be able to sing while spinning around and doing arial acrobatics.

p.s. I haven't seen that movie in a LONG time. Is that song in the background in the original movie or added for this theme park show?

Posted: 1/2/06 at 9:17amI think that is the same as the show they do in Orlando.

Posted: 1/2/06 at 9:28amThe show in Orlando is completely different; I think this would be great for the Broadway production as long as they make that big bar she's sitting on a little less obvious and tacky-looking.

Posted: 1/2/06 at 9:33amI haven't seen the one in Orlando. A friend told me that it is older and kind of worn out. She was wondering if it would still be operating when we go this year. I cannot wait until they get Mermaid to Broadway. I would have thought it would be more of a priority that Tarzan.

The Little Mermaid show has been there since the beginning of the MGM park and is always full; I don't think it's going anywhere SOON....
then again, you never know with Disney.

Doubtful, though it is a rather interesting concept, having everyone that swims fly, to simulate swimming.
Who knows, maybe we'll see another theatrical imagination explosion as we did with The Lion King. That's certainly what I'm hoping for. Heck, have Julie Taymor direct another one!

Posted: 1/2/06 at 5:56pmi think that sebastian will be done as either a bowler topped character ala zazu or he'll und up being an actor in a costume as opposed to that huge ass puppet thing from the clip

I am really looking forward to this...have been for years.
I will confess...it'll be interesting to see if they keep the ending from the movie or if they'll change it to make it more stageable...Granted, Julie Taymor could have done it like in the movie.

Posted: 7/4/06 at 9:23pmThis is actually a project, that in my opinion, is screaming for Julie Taymor's involvement. I can only imagine what it would look like if she were involved.

George Tsypin and Francesca Zambello are very capable people. I'm sure they will come up with a cool soultion. Tsypin has a lot of sculptural glass in his past design work, so I can imagine him incorperating that into the Little Mermaid underwater designs.
