It might have been 9 AM actually--but the wristbanding w/purchase is definitely going to be their way of turning people away.
If they had to turn about 60-70 people away for Joan Rivers, I can only imagine they'll be turning away a lot more for Liza.

Posted: 2/2/09 at 2:05pmMy friend at B&N says 9 AM, but showing up at 8 AM to buy your CD will ensure you get a wristband.

Posted: 2/3/09 at 9:25amGot there at 6:00 this morning and was the 18th person on line. I got bracelet number 30 however, probably because there are 12 VIP spots. We all have to return there at 5pm and line up in numerical order. The performance/signing begins at 6pm. Can't wait!

My friend at B&N says she'll sing three songs before she starts signing and they're expecting a zoo.
I love that you call the wristband a "bracelet"...as if it had diamonds! ;-}

Posted: 2/3/09 at 10:35amWhen Charles Strouse was at the Lincoln Center Barnes and Noble for the Life After Tomorrow DVD signing, I purchased the DVD but asked him if he would sign my Bye Bye Birdie LP and Golden Boy souvenir program instead. He was happy to oblige my request. They may be stricter for Liza, but it never hurts to ask.

I'm sure there are still wristbands available if you go before noonish. I was #56 and there were definitely not 100 people behind me when I left.
Also, from what I hear (not 100% sure) the first 160 or whatever who get numbered wristabands will be in the room for the performance.
They are giving out additional wristbands for the signing. They just can't fit more than the 160 in the room.
So, it's not a complete loss to try and go later even if you weren't there this morning. Or perhaps call the store and ask if the info I'm telling you is correct.
The B&N window display is adorable :)

Yeah, Liza certainly brings it. Whatever IT is.
She sang 4 songs. She was only scheduled to do 3, but then she threw in "What Makes a Man a Man?" My eyes got a little misty with that one.
They had pinkish/neon lights shining on her like it was a cabaret act. It was really very fun.
What was going on with that lady in the back of the room? Was she sick or was she drunk? I'm pretty sure I smelled alcohol as she was falling down and being escorted out by the B&N staff.

I'll share a Liza moment from years ago- I was manager of a store that hosted A Liza signing. People lined up for hours. The guy who was first in line brought his full-size Cabaret poster for her to sign and then was so overcome he couldn't speak to her when he got his moment...so he stood in line AGAIN to see her so he could tell her how much he loved her.
Liza was great, wonderful to every single person. She smoked non-stop and killed numerous Diet Cokes. ("In glass bottles, please, darling!") She was great about signing ANYTHING they put in front of her but was selling her Carnegie Hall Video & CD- and I mean SELLING IT. People would gush how much they loved her and she'd say "OH that's GREAT! Did you get the new video? I only see the CD! Darling, you've got to get the video so you can see me DANCE! I'll just leave this here and you run up to that register right there and get the video! Then you come right back here and I'll sign it for you!" We set up a register just for "Liza's friends" that she sent to buy something else. She was the BEST!

I was there yesterday and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Since I was one of the first people on line in the morning, we had prime front center seats for the event (only the VIPs had seats in front of us) and wow was it amazing. Billy Stritch introduced Liza and she sang four songs: "And The World Goes Round," "I Would Never Leave You," "I Love A Violin," and "What Makes A Man A Man." While she didn't sound as perfect as she did at the Palace Theater, she sounded pretty damn good for having a month off.
She looked stunning in her black pants and sparkly black top, and she also looked as if she was having the time of her life up there. It was thrilling to see her in such a tiny venue (and I'm sure I never will again). Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After the performance, she did a brief interview with NY1, and then started signing CDs for the fans. When it was my turn, I told her that I had seen the show 11 times (which she reacted positively to) and I thanked her profusely for doing the show and for making me, as well as countless others, so happy for the five weeks she was back on Broadway. She was so nice and it was truly thrilling to have met her.
I also have to commend Barnes & Noble. I have been to many many CD signings there are this was the most organized I have ever seen. There was tons of security and everything was orderly and well thought out. I am honored to have participated in this wonderful event.

She signed 400 CDs.
Barnes and Noble designed a set for Liza:
They even had someone design and cater a green room for her:

There was a little girl there. I'm not sure how she got in without buying the CD, but it's irrelivent. She stood in the line and I'm not sure what she was saying to Liza, but I saw her with a notebook and just wanted Liza to sign a piece of her notebook paper. I heard Liza say (somewhat quietly), "Do you have a CD?"
The little girl said no (who knows, maybe she couldn't afford it). Liza leaned toward the B&N worker and said, "Go get a CD" and notioned as if it say, don't charge her for it.
I just thought it was a really sweet moment.
