Never have I anticipated the release of a CR in my life.
Curtains was the best thing I have seen this season. I dont even know where to begin, the cast, score, set, lighting, etc.
I was just blown away by the entire production!
I hope everyone enjoyed the show who have seen it already.

Glad you liked it! I cannot wait for the cast recording either.
I would like to see this walk away with the Tony Award for Best Musical.

In a way I'm dreading the cast recording because I know that when I get it I'm gonna have those songs stuck in my head for weeks!

Posted: 5/1/07 at 6:36amI did not enjoy it. Aside from David Hyde Pierce's performance, it was a total snooze fest for me. And it's not even a case in which I would recommend it to people solely for David Hyde Pierce's performance, because unlike Hugh Jackman's performance which *made* THE BOY FROM OZ, it's just not enough worth dropping all that cash on here. I don't forsee this show *winning* any Tonys. With all of the competition this season, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't even get a nomination for Best Musical.

Posted: 5/1/07 at 7:39amI liked Company a lot better. Curtains was OK, Company MUCH better.

COMPANY and CURTAINS are two COMPLETELY different beasts. I loved both, for totally different reasons, and wouldn't think to compare them to each other. Apples and oranges. :P
#7re: Look Ma, im gona rave about Curtains..here i go!
Posted: 5/1/07 at 9:09amHmmm, apples and oranges. Is there really anything wrong with comparing an "apple" to an "orange"? Does because they are different means you can't say you liked one better than the other?
#8re: Look Ma, im gona rave about Curtains..here i go!

Depends. If you're saying one's better, then that's not really fair, because it's not the orange's fault it's not an apple and vice versa. If you personally prefer one to the other, that's fine. Human nature and all that. But it's saying that apples are better than oranges just because you personally prefer apples that isn't quite right.

Posted: 5/1/07 at 9:49amI'd rather spend my money on Company than Curtains, that's all. Saw them both once, and decided to spend my money on Company a second time. Once was enough for Curtains. Enjoyed the "Company" experience enough to want to do it again (and maybe even again!).

Posted: 5/1/07 at 10:53amcourtny, I saw it twice, both times before opening, and I can't get the songs out of my head as it is! I can't wait for the CD. I anticipate seeing this show many, many times - thank goodness for standing room.

Posted: 5/1/07 at 11:04amI haven't tried it yet, but looking at the grosses, it probably is available at least on the weekends. You probably could get there fairly close to curtain.

I can't WAIT to see CURTAINS in June. I'm so excited for this show and DHP. I want this to do well. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I've heard lots fo great things about it from lots of people.
#14re: Look Ma, im gona rave about Curtains..here i go!
Posted: 5/1/07 at 11:43amI did not care for Curtains at all. I pretty much hated everything about it other than Ziemba and Danieley, who did what they were paid to do.

I'm so glad you enjoyed BB2!
I loved everything about Curtains (okay maybe the first half drags a bit..who cares) and I may be in the minority concerning the music but I thought it was wonderful. I've already pre-ordered the cast recording. Matter of fact, I ordered three so I had one each at work, home, and in the car. In case anyone is interested Amazon is now taking pre-orders of the CR for $13.99. Combine it with another CD and shipping is free. I can't wait to get my CDs and can't wait to see Curtains again and again!

Posted: 5/2/07 at 2:04amWhy bother reading this thread if you didn't like the show? Are you really that sad and pathetic that you need to take the time to sit and write a whole paragraph about it? No-one was asking you. So shut up.

I can't get the "Company" sounds out of my head. With "Curtains" and "The Pirate Queen", both shows I actually did like, I can't remember a single song from either show.....

When comparing apples and oranges, consider the dog show process. How do you score a Poodle against a Saint Bernard? They are scored on which comes closest to the breed standard. Is the poodle a betetr Poodle than the Saint Bernard is a Saint Bernard? Is the apple closer to being the perfect apple than the orange was a perfect orange?
Relevance please? Absolutely. How DO you compare a show like Curtains to a production like Company? Did the sets for Coram Boy suit that production better than the sets for Journey's End suited it? Is Curtains the better old-fashioned musical that it sets out to be than Company is a better more minimalist, high concept take on an established show? If we look at it like that, the comparisons for voting purposes become easier... right?

I have to agree. Seeing Curtains was the highlight of my trip to NY. The music was fantastic and so very memorable. And not just one, but quite a few are ones I can't wait to hear again when the CD finally comes out. Am bummed that it wasn't ready to be purchased at the theatre.
Having read a wide spectrum of comments here and elsewhere, I didn't know what to expect, but I didn't find the first act any less entertaining and I didn't understand why anybody would find some of the dialogue and choreography tasteless. It was a great show and one that should play well for not only tourists but everybody, who enjoys really good musical comedy (and murder mystery)!
David Hyde Pierce's performance was a revelation. I didn't think he'd be up to it and was so pleasantly surprised. Debra Monk? What can I say. She's a force to be reckoned with and she owns it so brilliantly.
Curtains was big and bright and brilliantly done. Next I'll move onto the C's.

Shakespearean, I actually found that post pretty helpful and will be bearing that in mind next time I fancy making such a comparison decision. :3
If CURTAINS doesn't have a catchy score, why have I had 'A Tough Act To Follow' in my head for the last week? Why did I leave New York singing 'It's A Business'? Granted, it doesn't come as close to the catchiness standard as something like ON THE TOWN does (I am NEVER getting 'New York New York' out of my head after seeing the show last Friday XD), but there's some catch. ^_^

He-he, no problem Shakespearean. My brain is on low battery until its had a substantial caffeine infusion in the morning. I read your post without the proper charge, but it's better now.
I'm gonna go have an apple...or maybe an orange. Ugh, decisions!
