Looking for broadway friends!

I don’t have many people in my friends group who care or like going to see shows as often as I do, so I’m hoping to make some on here!

A little about me: I’m 27 yr, been to a little over 40 shows by now probably~ I really enjoy organizing/collecting my playbills from shows I’ve seen, and store them in the archival quality playbill binder LOL. I try to stage door as much as possible but it still makes me nervous every time. I also usually see shows by myself haha

Some of my favorite shows are: Once, Miss Saigon, Next to Normal, Waitress, Amelie, Wicked, Once on this Island, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Big Fish, Peter and the Starcatcher, Avenue Q, etc.

Shows I’m dying to see: The Band’s Visit, Angels in America, Carousel, My Fair Lady, Girls and Boys, Skintight, Boys in the Band, Hamilton, Mean Girls, Frozen, Three Tall Women, and more!

If you are on Instagram, my handle is MilkSteakBaby (a throw to Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia). I often post about my recent broadway trips there, but other stuff too.

As a 70 year old, let me warn you to be careful about meeting people on the Internet. Most of the people on BWW are pretty decent but you can't be too careful in these matters--especially since you've given a little personal information about yourself.

There's nothing wrong with seeing shows by yourself and chatting about them here.

Again: be careful!

Hey! I’m in the same boat haha. None of my friends are interested in theatre at all. It’s pretty disappointing lol.

I’m curious what negative experiences you’ve had meeting people from the internet (or BWW)?

Having done quite a bit of online dating in the past (some good, some awkward, some bad- but never dangerous), you just have to meet in a public place and tell a friend where you’re going (and ask them to check in with you via text at a certain time). But it doesn’t get much more public than a NYC theater!

As for going alone to theater- I love it. Much easier to get a seat where I want if only looking for a single. Maybe there’s a meet up group you can find (like the group on Showscore? They send out emails every week with group ticket sales and go to a bar after to discuss). Good luck!

I appreciate your advice and concern :) I’ll definitely be careful <3 I’ll probably be using the chat message boards more frequently, as well.

Lol yes!! The cricket sounds that follow after mentioning watching broadway to my friends haha. I end up just watching YouTube videos in order to relate to someone besides myself.

I do enjoy that aspect of going to the theatre alone. Picking a day, taking my time, not having to worry about someone making you late lol. But it can be a little lonely. I haven’t heard of Showscore before, but that group definitely sounds like something I’d be interested in trying out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Are you a sunny in philly fan? I am. Also phillys my hometown. I’m in the same age range. No family. All the friends are married w kids and no time for theatre. Seeing things solo is my norm and it’s fine but having to comment to would be nice.

I'm probably one of the youngest here on the boards who isn't a troll, but there are ALOT of ways to get connected to Broadway fans online safely! I recommend befriending a few playbill pages, I run one myself and there's a chat dedicated to Waitress with all of us. It's a pretty cool environment! I'd also recommend the fan groups of Facebook for your favorite shows (Hansen has one, as well as alot of bigger shows. I'm pretty sure Newsies and N2N still have active ones!) and many people meet through there. Just a warning though, Instagram is where lots of the younger fans like myself go (I'm technically considered part of the older part, as a college student) but if you can find people on there comfortable with speaking to you then that good! If not, Facebook caters more to your part of the generation.

The bad experience I had was with a gal who shall remain nameless. She called incessantly and pretty much expected that I drop what I was doing to meet her for a glass of wine. (I live in Suffolk County, she lives in NYC).She started rumors about me getting her fired as a writer from BWW

I had a bad meal in an Italian place once so now I advise people... Don't ever eat in restaurants!

Yess! I love It's Always Sunny :) I've seen each episode wayyy too many times haha. Sometimes when I visit Philly I play their theme song when we drive into the city. Yeah thats how I feel too. I've been going to shows by myself long enough, but it'd be nice to discuss how the show was with someone after or just having company.

Thank you for the suggestions! Omg, I would love to join a Waitress page XD I've seen the show 3 times and still have a lot of feelings! I'm almost constantly on Facebook, so i'll definitely start poking around for some groups to join Looking for broadway friends! Thank you!
