Looking for marriage proposal duet#1

Hi all

There seem to be some pretty knowledgeable musical theatre enthusiasts here.

I'm looking for a duet with a male character (possibly something of a villain) proposing marriage to a female (who is not reciprocating the attention). There are bonus points if she is too scared/polite to state EXACTLY what she thinks - replying with some ambiguous statements. A comedic atmosphere is probably best.

I'm sure I must have seen several duets like this, but for the life of me, I can't bring a single one to mind.

Thanks for any help!

"Crazier Than You" From The Addams Family -- It's not proposal, but Wednesday and Lucas do talk about their love for one another.

The characters of Gaston and Belle from Beauty and the Beast come to mind, although his proposal song (forget what it's called) is sung to her and her rejection of the idea is a separate song after he's gone (Belle reprise).

^^ I think the song you're thinking of is "Me".

The sexes are reversed. She wins him over (but his sheepishness and initial resistance are cute). She's not a villain. But Rachel and Avram's Three Sunny Rooms from Rags is a funny marriage proposal song and the Strouse/Schwartz tune and lyrics are great. Just fyi in case you might be able to switch gears.

And while we are on the subject of nice Jewish prenup songs, just thought I'd mention Miracle of Miracles from Fiddler and the underappreciated One Room from the equally underappreciated The Rothschilds.

"Fragrant Flower" from First Impressions is in this comic vein. An unsuitable suitor proposes marriage to the heroine by comparing her to flowers. She responds to his every entreaty with a series of "no"s. It's amusing.

"All Er Nuthin'" from Oklahoma
"No, No, No" from Tovarich (not marriage, and the sexes are reversed, but still very funny)
"Do It the Hard Way" from Pal Joey (you could play this to imply marriage)

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

While the male is not a villain, the female largely ignores his "marry me" plea in favor of singing about modern inventions in "Make a Miracle" from WHERE'S CHARLEY?

Not a duet, and not exactly what you are looking for, but look at Kander and Ebb's Marry Me from The Rink/And The World Goes Round. "You may not know it yet but I'm the best you'll get." Although the woman doesn't sing, it can be done with the woman nonresponsiveness making an interesting interplay. And in And The World Goes Round, the woman sings A Quiet Thing from Flora, the Red Menace, a lovely answer to the proposal.

Maybe a mash-up of songs could be fun too. Like pairing "Get Me To The Church On Time" with "Getting Married Today." You couldn't necessarily do it in counterpoint, but a verse of one and then a verse of the other.

There's also a dual suggestion and refusal of the idea of marriage in the comic duet "What Takes My Fancy" from Wildcat.
