No vibrato? Really? Wow... I've never heard of such a request. I would have to really concentrate to do that; my vibrato comes naturally. Oy.
Boy. This musical's going to be a real winner.

I CANT BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY CREATED THIS MUSICAL...BUT GOOD LUCK!!!
How can they say No Vibrato? Can't some people not control that?
Well, if you watch the Behind-the-Scenes video, the kind of music they seem to be using is very different than most Broadway showtunes and it wouldn't sound right sung in vibrato. It requires quite a unique voice. Will the whole show sound like thing? I don't know. But, I assume they are looking for people who don't sing in vibrato or those who can control it.
Of course your vibrato is natural, Joshua. It's supposed to be. It's harder to sing without it if you have it, but it definitely can be done.

You definitley should be able to control it. Some people like alot some people like a little and some people like none. You have to be able to take direction.

Rath- Well, I know it's supposed to be natural, but don't you realize how many vocalists force it? Probably a good percentage of them.

Geez, stopping my vibrato drives me crazy. I've been having to do it for some extended notes in chorus. But no vibrato for a whole musical? Strange.
I do realize that, Joshua. But then it's just contrived. Real vibrato is natural.

That's what I'm saying. The amount of vocalists out there with real vibrato is probably quite small.
HAVE FUN! That sounds awesome!

I disagree - I would say the opposite.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
It almost makes me think that they may be going for a Cirque du Soleil(ish) type feel as far as the music and vocalists go. I watched the "behind the scenes" video about it and I don't think this musical will be a "typical" musical at all. Just listen to a few Cirque du Soleil CD's and get a feel for that type of music.
Best of luck to you on your audition!

A whole bunch of my performer friends are auditioning for this in Vancouver. I'm a little horrified about the concept of turning Lord Of The Rings into a musical, but who am I to judge until it comes out.....ugh
I have to just get this off my chest...I think that while the idea is great..the practicallity of this is obsurd. LOTR in 3.5 hours...I don't think it will work...I hope it does though.

I'm auditioning in Montreal on the 29th, and I'm singing a Gaelic folk song. This is NOT a Broadway-showtune show, it's very Lord of the Dance, Enya Gaelic style. Vibrato CAN be controlled, and if you can't control it....then you're not going to be cast! Plain and simple.
A friend of mine was called back for Gimli in Toronto. He was told to prepare a Welsh drinking song. Think of the incidental music they used in the movie. Don't go singing Defying Gravity.

Josh, you'll be surprised how easy it is to control it. I thought the same thing when I had to prepare songs without any vibrato but after getting it out of your muscle memory, it's pretty easy.
