Hi all - I know this is the Broadway board but hoping someone has experience with the LA theatre scene. I'll be in Hollywood the week of Thanksgiving and my daughter and I would love to take in a show there, any type of performing arts will do. DEH tour will be there but tickets are pricy and we already saw it on B'way. It looks like there are a lot of theaters in the area where we are staying but it's hard to tell what will be playing at each. Anybody know if there is a website just dedicated to LA theaters/shows? Do they have a same-day ticket discounter out there similar to TKTS?
Thanks!

I would head to Goldstar.com and choose Los Angeles as your location. It will give you an idea of shows playing, as well as offer discounts.

Plays411 has half-price tickets. Also try Eventful for what's happening in the area.

Though I've enjoyed LA theatre at the Ahmanson, Mark Taper, Pantages, and East West Players, I recommend checking out many other unique LA destinations.
Do you really want to see A Bronx Tale at the Pantages during your visit to LA?
I love the Autry Museum, the Griffith Park Observatory, the Broad, the Getty, Disneyland, boat trips to Catalina Island from Long Beach, tv tapings - though there may be a minimal age for certain shows, Nixon's Library in Yorba Linda, or Reagan's Library in Simi Valley.
Seeing a film in LA is a treat. Try to see the main feature at the Chinese, or whatever is playing at the El Capitan or Egyptian. ArcLight's Cinerama screen is glorious. I love the free films at the Getty or the $5 films at the Academy's Goldwyn.
Have a great trip!

Thanks guys - I signed up for Goldstar and love the lastagetix.com site, very helpful. BalconyClub - I agree, wouldn't want to see Bronx Tale in LA but I do love supporting the arts in other parts of the world so would buy tickets to something that I can't see in NY.
We do have many of your other tips on our to do list but I was disappointed that not much is going on with tv tapings due to Thanksgiving week. We will definitely check out a movie at the Chinese or El Capitan theater, would be really cool if there is a premiere that week.
Thanks again!

Today Tix also offers discount tickets to shows in LA. I often check both that site and Goldstar to find the best prices.

to bad SWEAT at the Mark Taper Forum had already closed because that was an exceptional piece of theater and a phenomenal production.
Michael Arden is directing a version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL at the Geffen - that might be worth exploring

Wow, thanks VernonGersch! Michael Arden is my fave director ever since I saw OOTI. Christmas Carol looks perfect for one of our nights, tickets are reasonable and I would love to see Geffen Playhouse. Thanks for the tip!
