Love and Human Remains Revival

This is one of my favorite Canadian plays. Is anyone planning to go? Interesting, I didn't realize that Clark Gregg and Sam Rockwell were in the original Off-Broadway production, which had a successful run in 1991 (2 years, I believe after the Canadian premier.) I'm a little surprised more of Brad Fraser's plays haven't had Off-Broadway productions in New York, such as Poor Superman (one of several stories that features Love's David, again.) Denys Arcand did a rare (for him) English language film of the play with Thomas Gibson that's pretty good, but it still works better on the stage, I think.

Love and Human Remains Revival

Grrrr...

It's actually set in my hometown of Edmonton--and when it premiered there, I was only 9 but I remember all the scandal about the gay sex, nudity etc. (When Poor Superman was meant to get its American premier, it was held back due to the Robert Mapplethorpe issue about American funding of gay "pornography.") The movie changed the setting to Montreal, I believe, though they kept it vague. Just this past month there were successful versions in Brazil and Rome. It really is a great play--sexy, weird, and very moving, though I can not, of course, comment on this production.

Hm. I'm back in the city in August. I'd love to see this.

hehe, I was considering going, just didn't see a discount yet, and it doesn't seem like a show that would sell out the house at full price.

Love and Human Remains Revival

I like Love and Human Remains, but I LOVE Poor Super Man. I did a production in the NY Fringe Festival in 2001 and it was life-changing. I may try to hit this up...lord knows I'm getting non-stop e-mails about it.

It seems to be heavily promoted on here, which is why I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed more. I think out of the two plays I prefer Poor SuperMan as well, but both are great plays. Brad Fraser is a huge talent who I sometimes complain about on here (he wrote for the American Queer as Folk which I mostly dislike--) but I am really glad to see this having a revival.

2 pretty bad reviews below:

(1) www.metro.us/newyork/entertainment/arts/2014/07/22/theater-love-human-remains-worse-high-school-play/
(2) www.theatermania.com/new-york-city-theater/reviews/07-2014/love-and-human-remains_69271.html

This is not a Playwrights Horizons production. And it looks like an off-off-Broadway production that is surprisingly charging $55 off-Broadway prices.

Ruh roh. Thanks for the links--I couldn't find any reviews yet. It's obvious the play would be dated, but it's unfortunate that it sounds like the direction doesn't get around that.
