They could have started to promote him as early as this weekend by taking out an ad in the NY Times. I'm sorry for not being optimistic, but Constantine cannot boost the box office high enough to overtake the losing grosses. Usher's been in Chicago for a week and he's boosted the grosses from $500,000 to $750,000 (and that's in a 10 year old show). They need someone of Usher's caliber in Wedding Singer and they don't have that in Constantine, as good or bad as he is.
I'm a fan of Wedding Singer. I'm sorry to see it sinking. But just close it and cut the losses.

Posted: 8/28/06 at 8:11pmI was never under the illusion that Constantine would boost the box office as much as it needs. I hoped it might last a little longer though.

I've heard from cast members that they've got "enough profit" to stick around for a little longer. I don't know how much "enough" is or how much longer they're talking about.
Chat in the chatroom, anyone?

I don't think anyone in that cast is expecting the show to stick around through the end of the year, so.

The BWW chatroom (left side, under SITE).
And if the show makes it to New Year's Eve, I will be very glad. I'd like for it very much to stick around until I get back from school. Do I think it will? No. The cast? Hard to say. Some do, some don't.

I'm one of those Constantine fans making the trip to see the show now that he's in it. I don't know how much difference we'll all be able to make, but I know there are already a number of fans who've made flight and hotel reservations to come to NYC for the show. Unfortunately, all the talk about the show closing is scaring many of his fans from purchasing tickets. I think those that can make September dates are proceeding with plans, but those that can't come until October are very skittish and are not yet buying tickets.
BTW - Constantine updated his myspace tonight and has added some youtube performances from his recent concerts if you're interested in having a look.

Posted: 8/28/06 at 11:30pmTry and talk them into buying their tickets for the show for October - if the show closes before they're able to make it out, they'll be refunded. I'd be careful about airplane tickets, though. That's the problem with seeing a show on Broadway... you never know when a closing notice will go up and ruin your plans. *knocks on wood*

Yes, well, you should have seen the furor when his fans thought he would be canceling some previously announced shows so he could do WS instead. Luckily, he will still be doing the originally scheduled shows and missing WS those nights.

Posted: 8/29/06 at 12:12amSo would that mean that Andy Karl would be going on as Sammy on those dates? Or is my logic totally cracked out and I'm making stuff up again?
re: Love is what we do! - THE WEDDING SINGER appreciation thread.#1394
Posted: 8/29/06 at 12:24amI doubt they would teach Andy all of that cause he is only there for a short time so that means Matt Allen would go on as Sammy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they've bumped Matt Allen up to the first Sammy u/s now that Andy Karl is in the show.
Edit: Okay, or maybe they bumped Matt Stocke up. I forgot he's still a Sammy u/s, too. I just don't know which was the second cover. Probably Stocke? Hmm..
