We will be coming to town at the end of the month. My D wants to see the lightening thief which is playing at the Lucille Lort El theater. The entire front row is available, can anyone tell me if this would be a good choice for seeing the play? Or would farther back be better?
Thanks

I like sitting in the front row of the Lortel, and I don't feel like the stage is too high. The seating isn't raked very much at all, and I'm short, so I always have a problem with peoples' heads getting in my way and that obviously isn't a problem in the first row. At that theater, I prefer first row (center section) or a side aisle seat.

I always sit in the front row there, because I'm tall and I like to annoy people. Kidding. But yeah, for most shows there, the front row is fine. That said, they can build the stage up for some productions, but even then, it's typically fine.
The ENTIRE front row being available, however, would make me nervous... as though they held it until they loaded the set in before deciding if they should sell it or something. No side orchestra aisle a few rows back available?

I know this space is tiny and that they don't use the mezzanine much, but has anyone actually sat up there? Curious about the view.

No problem seeing anything up there.

The mezzanine is terrible because the seating is not raised at all, so it is basically four rows of seats pointed straight ahead at no incline. I know they are selling the mezzanine for the upcoming Matthew Perry play (I guess they're assuming he'll be a draw), but I would recommend only taking those seats under duress.

I second AC's assessment. I made the mistake of sitting up there for CARRIE, not knowing what it would be like. It was two-plus hours of stretching, craning, and leaning. I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for the info!
If the seat is front row mezzanine, would you still advise against?

You have dramamama's endorsement from experience. I sat further back, so I couldn't say. (Though I will also say that, for as small as the theater is, it felt farther away than I expected. It has an attic-like feel.)

Awesome. Thanks for the info, mama, growl and AC!

I imagine front row would probably be fine, since you'd have no one sitting in front of your to block your view. But in general, I try to avoid the mezzanine there.

Thanks for the advice! Friends and I were about to buy tickets for End of Longing and would have chosen the mezz seats but will take the extreme side orch for the same price now.
