MAME - Leslie Uggams

Super random but here goes...surfing around and saw that a production of MAME is being produced in Boca Raton Florida starring Leslie Uggams in December. Having never been to Boca - I kinda think it would be a hoot to see this production live. Has anyone on this thing seen any productions at the Wick Theater in Boca?

MAME - Leslie Uggams

Mame was produced last year with Leslie Uggams. Ms Uggams unfortunately just finished getting knee surgery and didn't do any dancing in Mame. I heard she arrived in a wheel chair. e. She sang beautifully and knocked the songs out of the park but when you sing "That's how Young I feel" and sit on a piano...its problematic.

The Wick shows are pretty good and well produced. I'm looking forward to seeing Hello Dolly with Leroy Reams.

MAME - Leslie Uggams

I saw Leslie Uggams years ago in the touring version of Anything Goes and she was a distinctly underwhelming Reno Sweeney. In fact, if memory serves, I am pretty sure she received tepid reviews in general for that show. Given that Mame requires even more charisma and presence than Reno Sweeney, I cannot see Uggams in the part unless she has dramatically improved over the years. Again, speaking from the Anything Goes experience, she does have a pleasant singing voice, but she was a clunky dancer and hit-or-miss stage presence. To her credit though, she did manage to rise above her horrific co-star Rex Smith, whose singing was so soft as to be barely heard, was also a clunky dancer and re-defined the term "low wattage".
