If this is the same Maria Friedman that was the Narrator in the Joseph video, then I can't see her in Gypsy. I absolutely hate the woman in the Joseph video, but then again, when I think Mama Rose I don't automatically think Angela Lansbury, either.

I spoke with Maria Friedman after a performance of Woman In White in London last week. She confirmed she will be doing Gypsy in Texas in June and July before heading to Broadway to prepare for WIW.

Yes, Maria is great. London's best by far. Daisy Eagan is a great actress too. I think this casting sounds pretty awesome. long drive to texas, but still cant wait to see it.

Maybe I'll fly out to Texas this summer to see it. I've never been. Not that I've ever wanted to go.

does anyone know if Maria auditioned for this role, or if it was just offered to her or what? it seems a little random unless she knows a Texas-based producer. Since no one seems to know WHERE the show is, I guess it means that no one knows whos producing it either?

Yeah, she's got to be coming to Dallas or Houston. Trouble is, I don't recall seeing any of the big houses producing Gypsy this summer. Don't you think we'd have heard something?

i just had to find out what i could, so word on west coast is that the show starring Daisy Eagan and Maria Friedman is taking place in a city called Odessa (???) thats what i heard and that its not a new regional company but a private producer's show. who can this mysterious producer be?

dont know but theyre bloody brilliant to bring Maria Friedman to Texas! She'll sell a million tickets! They must have a huuuuuuuuge budget to bring in that kind of talent. Maria's not cheap- the times said shes the highest paid stage performer in the UK. is odessa a big city?

just noticed that Maria is quoted on the woman in white site saying how she'd love to play rose in gypsy. looks like she was giving us a hint. wow, all the way to texas to see her.

This must all be rumor. I have seen no official announcements that would indicate such a high profile production of Gypsy. Especially in Odessa. The surprising Odessa production of Chicago turned many heads last year here in Dallas / Ft. Worth, but certainly would not have given them the national and international clout to pull off something this big. Nothing about it is mentioned at www.daisyeagan.com or www.aboutmaria.com I bet it's all talk.
