Posted: 12/19/07 at 3:54pmJoeKv99 - if B3TA07 did adapt his film into a bway musical, it would be better than YF.

Hey that's fine- I'm not arguing YF's merit- but Brooks created it and produced it and did a lot of the financing himself. Why shouldn't he bill it any way he wants?
And the only billing I've seen has "The New Mel Brooks musical" over the title at 1/3 the type size. For a producer, co writer and composer that doesn't seem excessive.

Posted: 12/19/07 at 4:09pmMan what is with the hate? Brooks has said repeatedly ever since he was a little boy he wanted to have a musical on Broadway. When he won the Tonys for Producers he said it was the proudest night of his entire life. I'll never create something like Young Frankenstein, but if I did I'd be so proud I'd never stop bragging about it. EVEN if you didn't like it, Brian.

^Yeah.
Um..anyone notice that Transylvania Mania, one of the few songs that are memorable, is very closely related to Irving Berlin's Puttin' on the Ritz?

It's not about ego, it's about selling tickets.
Mel's name is why people are going to see this show.
It's marketing and show BUSINESS

His name does appear no less than four times on the cover of the Cast Recording. It appears a total of ten times on the jewel case (including the spine). Lest we forget...

Posted: 12/19/07 at 6:02pmI'm not repelled by this show because of all of this ego crap or anything. I just think that when a bunch of the song titles are named after popular jokes from the movie, it says a lot about the quality of the show. I mean, why does Frau Blucher (whinny) need to sing a song called "He Vas My Boyfriend." The original joke is funny enough. Why sing about it.

I agree with you, only few of the songs tend to develop new gags of their own, they just extend the ones that the song started with. Then on the other hand, when is it any different, few songs in shows became funnier the longer they ran.
I decided for myself to just enjoy the lyrics and the tunes and let my thoughts rest
I've seen it on Broadway once and enjoyed it. Now the songs alone will do as well.

Keep in mind that those who "hate" the show are doing so without actually seeing the damn thing.

Posted: 12/19/07 at 7:36pmFor people who have never seen the original movie, "He Vas my Boyfriend" is an original joke. Personally, having seen the movie and then the Broadway show, it was fun to relive some of the moments. Is this show the greatest thing since sliced bread? No, but it isn't awful either. Enjoyable entertainment for 2 hours and 40 minutes. That's all its supposed to be. I am glad I saw it even though I was annoyed at Brooks for a few reasons that I I have stated in past posts. It is what it is and it has some fun moments.

Posted: 12/19/07 at 8:10pmYeah, B3, I did. "Repulsion," Like that Polanski movie with Catherine Deneuve where arms start coming out of the walls, only in this case it's oozing ego.
