im sorry, but im just not seeing "hate" in this thread, or even "jealousy".
the posts critcal of brooks and/or of the show are (rightly) observing a middling broadway musical, an enormous ego, and a large delta between the two. in the public sphere, that glaring disparity is fair game ...
it's great that "the producers" was the hit it was (and deserved to be), and no one can ever take that away from brooks, but that success obviously went to his head as well as his wallet.
and the assertion that *none* of the so-called haters has seen the show is silly, even for an anonymous message board ...

jesus christ people, suck it up! Even if you dont like the show, its selling well, and its not goin anywhere anytime soon. If thats a problem, then go cry about it...
I dont see any of you doin anything but complainin... once you write a musical that is a hit, THEN you can actually have some say...
I dont see Marc Shaiman here complaining about Young Frankenstein, and how Mel Brooks' name appears everywhere.
Its called professional courtesy...

"once you write a musical that is a hit, THEN you can actually have a say."
That doesn't make sense. Anybody who pays a ridiculous price for a ticket, sees a show and is disappointed has a right to say whatever they want about it.

I wasn't going to wigh in again, but NMatin, you made me chagne my mind. Want to bitch the score sucks? Be my guest. Hate the show? Fine by me- but that's not what this thread is about. It's that Mel is taking to much credit? Is too Proud? Is egocentric?
Bringing up Marc Shaimin made me think- I wonder what he thought of Mel's billing? I can't imagine how proud Marc must be of his shows.

well maybe the majority here aren't Brooks fans but let's be honest the name DOES sell. People love hs stuff.
And I liked Young Frankenstein, I don't know why there's so much hate.
Cages or wings? Which do you prefer? Ask the birds. Fear or love, baby? Don't say the answer Actions speak louder than words. (Tick, Tick... BOOM!)

jenifer and patricia- Thanks!!

This thread is not complaining about the show, its complaining about Brook's ego. And anywayz, the producers are not forcing you to pay 400 bucks for a ticket. That is customer perogative. If you cant afford it, dont spend it... And if you DO spend it, and are disappointed, you have every right to complain, but not about Brook's ego.
