My other message on this subject is buried very deeply, so I thought I'd ask again: Does anyone know why Gary Beach has missed several performances of THE PRODUCERS and also missed his appearance at the Broadway Flea Market? Any info would be greatly appreciated! I bought a ticket to see him in a couple of weeks and am hoping he'll be back.

He could be doing interviews for the movie, or perhaps they are doing reshoots. Or perhaps, he is ill.

I responded to your initial post yesterday:

Hey there,

I saw the show on Tuesday and he was out that night as well (John Treacy Egan went on and was a hoot as De Bris..not Gary by any stretch, but held his own quite well). I know he was out last Sunday's matinee as well. He was supposed to be at the Celebrity Table on Sunday as well, but his name was taken off the list. Sure hope all is well with Gary and that he makes a safe and healthy return to the show soon.
I walked past the theatre again today (Sunday, Oct 2) and he was still out on the board.

Are you sure he was out last Sunday?

I also noticed that his name was taken off the Celebrity Table list, but later that day I was at the Producers table and I saw Mr. Beach outside the St. James chatting with some people.

And the mystery deepens! Whatever is going on, I hope Gary is okay. He did not appear in any photos taken at the Flea Market, he is not involved with any of the hundreds of benefits taking place all over the city, and he's been out from the show. I sincerely hope he returns soon, and I also sincerely hope that the theatre will exchange my ticket (2 weeks from now) for a future date if necessary.

Maybe something is conflicting with the movie??? *shrugs*

My guess is that Gary might be doing some physical therapy after his fall of a few weeks ago and is just pacing himself carefully.

And I'd like to add that IMHO, John Tracey Egan's take on Roger DeBris is a bit better than just "holding his own" - I actually think he's every bit as good, just different.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that Gary had a fall a few weeks ago. Was it an onstage thing? I think he also broke an ankle while doing Beauty & The Beast years ago.

Hey there,

I'm almost positive Gary was out last Sunday, because Jim Borstelmann was on as Franz in place of John. And MasterLCZ, I would agree that John does a really wonderful job of Roger..I didn't mean to demean his performance..I really enjoyed it (it was miles beyond Jonathan Freeman's, who was just awful). I just hope Gary is alright!

Gary is such a lovely man, all good wishes to him that whatever is happening is sorted out soon and that all is well again for him.

I saw John Tracey Eagan perform as De Bris last Tuesday, and he was an absolute riot. Melissa Rae Mahon went on as Ulla that night, but I didn't think too much of her. Brad Oscar and Hunter Foster were excellent.

I saw the show on Staurday, September 17th and he was out and John was on. He was great, but I wanted Gary.

anyone care to hum a few bars about Mr. Beach's absence? I'm assuming its due to a death in his family....
